Frankly I was amazed they waited as long as they did to call it. Raining like hell, thunder and lightning, what the hell were they thinking?

Frazod 04-30-2010 11:38 PM

God what an abortion of a ****ing game. The umpires should have postponed the game before making Penny pitch in a monsoon, but beyond that, what an epic choke job by pretty much everybody. How many runners did we strand? ****.

yeah, that sucked. It was obvious that he was having trouble getting a good grip on the baseball. Baseball isn't football. QB's grow up learning how to throw a slick ball, baseball players don't. And baseball pitchers don't even use all their fingers to grip the ball, helll Waino holds his curveball with one finger and a thumb. Then there is the fairness part of it. Both QB's have to throw in the same enviornment. The Cincy pitcher at the bottom of the 6th didn't throw in that monsoon and the Cincy pitcher at the bottom of the 7th didn't either.

Frazod 05-02-2010 03:24 PM

Well, I guess you can't argue with a 6 out of 7 homestand. Four game series coming up in Philadelphia, excellent chance to see where we stand against another top team.

Pasta Little Brioni 05-02-2010 04:29 PM

Freese is playing very well lately.

whoman69 05-02-2010 04:44 PM

This was the Cardinals 8th series of the year and they won 7 of them losing only to the Giants. They continue on like this and the other teams in the Central are going to be positioning themselves for the wild card very early. I only hope that Tony does a better job this year of keeping the team in top form going into the playoffs. I'm all for giving a guy a day of rest to get better, but when you go to that well too often and your team is out of synch, better they just keep going.

whoman69 05-02-2010 04:48 PM

Cards open up in Philly against Blanton who has yet to pitch this year because of a strained oblique from spring training. Then we face two struggling pitchers in Hamels and Kendrick before facing Halladay in the last game. If our pitching holds I can see them taking 3 of 4.

With our starting pitching we can stack up against anyone. This will be a good test for us.

Fron STLtoday.com. The more base runners that get on in front of him, Pujols gets better .

If Garcia can keep pitching the way he has been we have the best 1-4 in the NL. Lohse could be a 3 on most teams too.

I know, I was just being a dick, he went in the shitter at the end of last year and is starting to pull out of it. But he eats innings and that's valuable, he'll give you a chance to win most nights.

He's up against Halladay Thursday. There's a matchup I don't like.

You want to be the best, you have to beat the best. The Dodger series last year proved that regular season wins or losses don;t mean chit but still..... its nice to see how you stack up.

For sure, but if you win enough ballgames in the regular season, you don't have to win a single game in Philly to move on.

Even if you don't, splitting the games you play against them in their own barn is a great recipe for post-season success.

A split at Philly would be a definite win.

Meanwhile, the umpires just iced our starting pitcher. I say we drill Joe Blanton in retaliation for this bullshit review.

Frazod 05-03-2010 06:16 PM

Kid's looking great so far (knock on wood).

Frazod 05-03-2010 06:21 PM

Heyward woke up this last weekend against the Astros but Freese was still NL player of the week.

I hope Freese continues to give him a run for his money. He has been smoking hot the last 10 days or so.

He is going to have RBI opportunities with this line up.

He was throwing bullets tonight. We haven't lost a single game that we have led going into the 8th inning.

I'm absolutely sold on the kid. He's going to be a premium defensive 3b and an above average hitter. We have our 3b for the next 5 years, IMO. I was incredibly impressed by him.

He has a nice line-drive stroke; 35 doubles/25 HRs are a possibility. He has great defensive instincts and soft hands. His arm is not Rolen's, but it's above average (better than Glaus). He's very quick at along the line as well, he made 3 or 4 great diving snags in the 4 games I watched.

He's a natural 6 hitter, average baserunner and potentially premier defensive 3b. Him and Brendan Ryan are going to be revelations to a lot of people this year, IMO. That's the left side of our IF for a loooong time.

He's not a slugger, but will get into some line drives that clear the fence. I don't think he'll peak this season by any means; a rookie learning curve is to be expected. At the same time, he's going to continue getting better as he's done at every stop through out his career.

...

If we stick with him, we'll have a very nice player on our hands.

Keep on keepin' on, David. Those screaming liners off the wall sure are comforting from the back downhill side of the order.

Kid's an absolute steal. His swing may get a little loopy from time to time, but he's a ballplayer.

Thanks for memories, Jimmy, but I'm sure glad to have this kid instead of you right about now.

And don't forget that Rasmus was a compensatory pick for letting Renteria walk.

The same ER we traded Braden Looper and Pablo Ozuna for...

Wainwright looks a little off tonight. And this is not a good team to be a little off against.

Pasta Little Brioni 05-04-2010 06:37 PM

Still 5 shutout innings though :D Also, he has been jobbed on some pitches right down the pipe that were called "high"

DJ's left nut 05-04-2010 06:40 PM

If we set the over/under on stranded runners tonight at 8, I think you take the over.

DJ's left nut 05-04-2010 07:03 PM

Stupid managing, IMO.

You walk the 8th place hitter, force Manuel to PH for Hamels, take your cracks in the 8th against a bad Philly 'pen.

Awful job by LaRussa.

Yeah, but you'd prefer not lose the ones that your ace gives you 7 innings of 1 run ball.

You'd definitely prefer not to lose games because your club was apathetic as hell throughout and your manager seemed about 2 steps behind the game most of the night.

Ugly loss.

Pujols up with bases loaded, doesn't get better than that. But even Pujols can't bat 1.000%. If you hold the team to 5 hits you expect to win.

LOB - 10

It usually doesn't take long to know when the Cards didn't show up.

They simply weren't interested in winning that game. Really a poor showing to back WW.

It's 162 games plus post season games. You can't be intense in every game. If you have Waino on the mound you can take the foot off the gas a little. Now tommorrow, they had better come out gangbusters.

Chiefburger 05-04-2010 08:55 PM

Intense or not, the Cards have a great shot tomorrow. While Kendrick will pitch to stay in the rotation, if not the majors, Penny has owned at CBP, going 2-0 with a 1.71 ERA. That said, I got the Phils winning the next two, first by romp, then by Halladay.

StcChief 05-04-2010 08:58 PM

Win @Philly and it even's the series with them.

Matt Holiday is still pizzing me off big time. T strike out 3 times in one game is absurd.
He needs to run out the dropped 3rd strike, if he didn't know it was dropped, shame on him. Little leagers are coached to look back at the 3rd strike, he gets paid big time bucks to get on base and he screwed the pooch. He is not earning his money and he's not protecting Albert.

Yeah, Albert was ticked off about not running out the dropped 3rd strike. I'll hold a grudge for a while from the playoff game. Not because he dropped a fly ball but his attitude and body language, eating those sunflower seeds  and then you see Ryan in the dugout sitting there with his head in his hands, devastated.

But that play above didn't matter anyway. Didn't effect the outcome of the game. The articles I've read is that he practices hard, takes extra batting practice and fielding. So he's not a lazy chit but his body language on the field makes us think he is.

Albert was pissed at him for not running to first as well. You could see that Albert was going to try to take 3rd on the throw across to 1st. Did it effect the game? Perhaps not, but anyone that watches baseball knows that it's nowhere even close to linear.

Put Albert on 3b and maybe Contreras isn't so free with his slider. Maybe he hangs one trying to make sure he doesn't put it in the dirt. I think Freese could hit a hung slider with a toothpick with the run he's on right now.

Lots and lots of maybes, but if Holliday does what you should expect a decent High School player to do there, we don't have to wonder.

Miles 05-05-2010 06:16 PM

Just a heads up to others that are out of market. Tonight's game is streaming on ESPN3 (new name for 360).

DJ's left nut 05-05-2010 07:07 PM

Another sterling AB for Ryan w/ men on.

Bench Ryan, move Holliday down in the order.

Skip
Greene
Pujols
Ludwick
Rasmus
Freese
Holliday
Molina
Pitcher

Holliday is not entitled to the cleanup slot and AP leads all but the Dodgers in intentional walks this season. That's right, only the Dodgers as a club have more IBBs than Albert Pujols (and 6 of theirs are walking the #8 hitter to get to the pitcher). Yeah, great protection for Pujols there, Matty.

Wake this ****ing team up. Being shutout by Kyle goddamn Kendrick is completely unacceptable.

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-05-2010 08:42 PM

Matt Holliday's main value to this team will be if his re-signing will entice Albert to do the same. Aside from that, the guy's pretty fraudulent. He hasn't approached his early career numbers since the PED crackdown in 2008.

He has had two good seasons following up his career year in '07. His numbers with STL last season with an admittedly smaller sample size were right in line with '07.

He went from a 35 HR guy in '06 and '07 to a 25 homer guy in 2008 and 2009. His .OPS dropped significantly the last two+ years, aside from a hot streak after joining the team in '09.

I'll probably never be able to view him rationally because of '09, so that needs to be taken into account as well.

The scary things about Holliday were his ridiculous Home/Road splits, and the decline concurrent with the end of the steroid era. I've yet to see evidence that dissuades me from viewing him rather skeptically in light of all of these facts.

He has really never been a completely pure power hitter. Low 30's HRs is probably the likely expectation with lots of doubles, high average and OBP. It that only produces an OPS of .950 like '08, I think he will be fine. Also keep in mind that he got hurt and missed some time during his 25 HR season in '08. He was admittedly quite mediocre as hell in OAK.

With the home/road splits I also need to see more games to figure out. He just seems to always play better at home and that actually includes the splits from last season. With the Rockies the home road splits are further exaggerated by the amount of games they have to play in PETO, Dodgers Stadium, and AT&T every year.

I am also probably just more optimistic about him since I saw the opposite of his playoff play for STL during the late season '07 run by the Rockies.

DJ's left nut 05-06-2010 12:06 PM

0-6 w/ RISP in the first 2 innings of todays game.

This is the worst team I have ever seen with runners in scoring position. They finally manged to score a run when the SS threw away a double play ball.

Lohse is terrible. Holliday is possibly worse. Thank God we were spared the privilege of watching Brendan Ryan flail about wildly.

Shake this ****ing lineup up. Matt Holliday has done absolutely nothing to warrant the cleanup spot. Schumaker hasn't done anything to keep his job and if we had a DH in the national league I'd use it on Brendan Ryans spot in the order.

This team is pissing me off to no end right now. Kyle Lohse -- you pitch till your ****ing arm falls off because we damn sure shouldn't burn our bullpen for the Pitt series because you're a ****ing pussy that can't finish off an inning.

Descalso isn't ready.

I throw about 60 on a good day and I'm pretty sure I could knock the bat out of his hands. I was shocked by how small this kid is (Pete Kozma was a tiny little bastard as well). He'll get eaten allive out there unless he's able to put a little more bulk on and work on getting the bat around quicker to fight off those inside pitches without getting jammed (ala Eckstein). I don't think his minor league numbers will translate at all to the majors because of his build. If he's 5'10'', 190 lbs, then I'm 7 ft tall.

Felipe Lopez should be the unquestioned starter at 2b when he returns, however. At the very least, the job should be open for competition. 2008 and 2009 Skip, and his OBP against righties, is a pretty decent option over there. But we need that Schumaker back soon, and an open competition at 2b may be the only way to do it.

So much for getting that split. Good thing every other team in our division is dog shit. :shake:

what's the scenario, currently? Is the Stl. Philly game on NOW?

DJ's left nut 05-06-2010 12:42 PM

****ing awesome. Bases loaded for Holliday.

Wanna bet that he grounds out weekly to short?

DJ's left nut 05-06-2010 12:42 PM

Check that, he's down 1-2 in the count. This is a K all the way.

Game on now. Following with gamecast - Cards down 5-1, Holliday up with the bases loaded, I assume he'll probably ground out to second.

Frazod 05-06-2010 12:44 PM

Strike out.

Is it too late to get Duncan back?

That's a boy, matty!

Make sure to swing that bat way over your head after you strike out with the bases packed!!

Don't forget to look really putulant and pout on the way back to the dugout so people don't think your just another big-money bust that forgot how to play baseball once you got paid.

**** you.

Hey, at least he's striking out swinging now. That's far better than the 3-2 pitch he stared at with the bases loaded and nobody out in the first inning of the first game of the playoffs.

So he's heading in the right direction.

We really need to move Freese into the No. 4 spot.

Simply Red 05-06-2010 12:53 PM

wait, was this a 4-game series?
