Man, the defense pulled that one out again. Major credit to Barry Odom, IMO, for the scheme, preparation and execution this defense is showing.
Without the typical, awful Mauk turnovers, I'm pretty confident the defense holds Arkansas State to 10 points (I'll give them the Lock turnover, that was just something that happens. Mauk's INTS were totally avoidable). They held what was a good offense last year - that returned 9 offensive starters - to 217 total yards, and less than three yards per play. And that's without their best returning defender (Harold Brantley), with one starter kicked off the team, and with a ton of young, unproven guys playing in the trenches up front. Impressive. The offense sucked shit again. OL must play better. WRs must play better. RBs must play better (And if Chase Abbington isn't better, right now, than Hunt and Witter, he's just another product of the St. Louis hype machine). And the QB spot must perform more consistently. Really, Mauk's biggest issue today was the turnover issue. Both were awful and set up easy fields for points. |

As for Witter.....he just doesn't look like he's all that special. For all the hype he received he looks like he has trouble finding the seam. BTW...what is up with Abbington? I thought he was supposed to be a decent RB? |
Quote:
Abbington has practiced like shit, apparently (heard Ford was ripping him all week for not being on the two deep yet). I've heard good stuff about Doherty but asked about him being a redshirt burn this year and was told he's not there from a strength standpoint and still needs some football-specific conditioning (emphasizing fast-twitch movements). Best hope for help - other than Hansbrough getting healthy - might end up being Trevon Walters' return. |
Quote:
I don't know that Witter ever received a lot of hype, but he looked last year like a typical Mizzou system back, who would be a very solid producer. He looks slower and less sure of himself in action this year. |
Is Steward ever going to get healthy enough to start?
|
Mizzou falls to #22 in the AP Poll from #21 last week. Utah, Arizona and BYU jumped them. That Arrowhead game against the Cougars looking tougher every week.

I hope it's a big national TV game. |
Take this with a big grain of salt(source is right 50% of the time):
Word is there will be another redshirt burned on Saturday: Marquise Doherty |
They need to do something. Lack of run game is going to kill them once they enter SEC play.
|
Trailing by 7 points in the third quarter, Mizzou sent out the following D-line:
True freshmen Nate Howard, Terry Beckner Jr. and Josh Moore. Redshirt freshman Walter Brady provided the experience for the group. From PowerMizzou. https://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1802941 |

Better blocking would help, too. Still working out some things on the OL. I'm of the opinion you just move McGovern back inside, where he kicks ass, and open things up on the right side with him and Boehm. |
Quote:
There's always another tailback. Mizzou can point to a long line of kids that have excelled here and they can just recruit another kid to fill in 4 years from now when Doherty doesn't have that extra year of eligibility. If he's not ready to play, might as well save it - reports are that the guy's still pretty slight for D1. But if he can withstand the pounding, burn the shirt and get some reinforcements in here. Steward's not going to recover and the guys around him just aren't that good. |
You know the most annoying thing about being in the "other" Columbia? Having to listen to the talking heads claim that Mizzou isn't really all that tough and it is one of the "winnable" road games for the Gamecocks.

I guess they are basing that on history? |

Their best WR, Pharoah Cooper, is hurt (but still playing) and tries to do too much. The rest of their WR group is just like MU's and maybe even greener. I would say their RB trio is maybe a little better than ours but that is only because Hansborough is hurt. Their TE and ours are a wash. Their Defensive front 4 is nothing to write home about....and besides Skai Moore their LB's aren't that good. Their DB's are OK, not bad. Who knows what their mindset will be by the time we play them...they play Georgia between the Hedges this week and then go home to play UCF. The one edge I give them without reservation.....their Coach is much craftier than ours. Our Coach sometimes gets conservative protecting a lead while The Ol' Ball Coach can sometimes pull a rabbit out of the hat just to keep you on your toes.....and has absolutely no trouble putting his foot on your throat. |
I'm not really arguing on which team is better. It's a winnable game for both sides.
They both have a lot of question marks by this point and it could really go either way. Missouri isn't on a higher plateau than South Carolina right now. We can't pass block and our best RB is our QB currently. We also wish we were playing the 2nd QB. Outside of Vandy, I wouldn't call one conference game a slam dunk this year. As of now at least. |

Wrong thread.

Anyone who thinks that we aren't a winnable game on South Carolina's schedule has WAY more confidence in this squad than I do. We should win, but it's about a 60/40 in my eyes.
And Spurrier is a terrible coach at this point in his career. He reallyneeds to hang it up. |

He's supposed to play tomorrow, so it must not have been too bad.

South Carolina is coming off a 6-6 season, and a loss at home already this year against Kentucky. Missouri is coming off a second SEC East title and (despite not looking like world beaters so far) has more momentum as a program right now. Not saying South Carolina can't come in and win, but still.

Becker was treated and released at the scene I believe
|
What a joke of a pass.
|
Mauk will not finish the season as starter
|
Hahaha, Christ. For ****'s sake, can we please start the Drew Lock era now?
|
How long can Pinkel ignore this?

Radio coverage just said that 4 of the last 5 scores against MU have come off turnovers.

Kudos to Mike Mauk for implementing a HS football system that garnered two D1 scholarships for his sons, Ben and Maty
|
I'm over Mauk. He's worse than Franklin to me and he'll never get it. Play Drew Lock.
|
I bet he won't even give Lock one series today just to give the fans the finger.

If you guys can just get some runners on base in the late innings and get to their bullpen you can win this game.
|
Mauk shouldn't see the field in the second half.
