I got something recently that I have been looking for for quite some time and I love it - an electric razor that actually works.

Because of scarring on my face, I can't use a razor with a blade. For years, I used Norelco rotary razors but because I have really thick hair, getting a close-ish shave lead to razor burn and itchiness.

Things got even worse as my beard turned (mostly) grey. My thick hair turned into wires, I think. Several years ago, I switched to a foil razor that I could use in the shower with shaving gel (Braun S5). This helped a lot but it struggled if I had more than a day's growth and really struggled on my neck.

I did some research and found the Braun Series 9 is considered the best for thick hair but I wasn't sure the almost $300 price tag was worth it. I found there was a stripped down (accessory-wise) version for $200 so decided to pull the trigger.

I was skeptical but - holy crap! - this thing really works. What used to take 6-7 passes with the S5 is pretty much gone in one, even on a couple of days of growth. It also has extra long battery life. I am really impressed with this thing and it was well worth the money.

Sorry about the life story. I just wanted to explain the years of frustration as for why I like this so much. And before someone chimes in with "just grow a beard", here's why - 1. I have almost no gray hair on my head but my beard is probably 85% gray so I look a lot older with it grown out. 2. Even though the hair is thick, it's patchy enough that it doesn't look good. 3. I hate the feeling of longer hair around my nose and on my neck. 4. Unless I want to be a neckbeard, I still have to shave the part of my neck that gives me the most trouble.

We have the 6 in 1, 6.5 qt. I had no idea what i was missing. My wife, who doesn't like most wings because they're "too fatty" , started asking for them at least a couple times a month.

I use it 3-4 times a week

Its a wireless temp probe for cooking that you control via mobile app. What's cool is how you can program your protein and it adjusts as it cooks to give an estimated time remaining based on temp. For things like steak and chicken its pretty handy or bbq if you're needing a more accurate window on when to drop your sides based on an estimated cook completion time of your main course.

I received it as a gift and not sure I'd spring for it myself as it comes across a bit more pretentious than need be, but it is pretty slick.

I'm compelled to circle back on this.

Several weeks ago I was smoking a brisket and using this Meater+

Towards the end of the cook, I carelessly, lets call it too many beers in, tried to remove the probe with my bare hand. Of course I burnt the shit out of myself and flung the Meater+ which landed on the grate, hanging down above the coals like a Chad in the 2000 election.

Since it was towards the end of the cook and temps were dwindling, I didn't figure much damage could be done and as soon as the fire was completely out, I'd retrieve it.

Go out the next day and the Meater+ is nowhere to be found. I combed through the spent coals and nothing, nada.

Assuming it was kaput and mostly disintegrated, I continued to cook on the Egg at least a half dozen times. Adding new fuel and easily reaching +700F temps.

Fast forward to this afternoon as I'm doing a total tear down cleanse and lo and behold. There she is, beneath the remains.

Gave her a Dawn dish soap soak, updated the firmare and BAM! back in business.

Welcome back ol girl. Next time you go in the fire I'm reaching in like Krull to get you, even though I know I don't need to, your loyalty and resiliency will not go unnoticed.

I don’t know if there was a packaging error at the plant or what, but I went into a local discount and purchased a Braun for $22(whatever model was on the box, long since thrown away.

Got it home, unpacked it and was surprised by how well it worked.

Turned out to be a Braun 9. Helluva shaver. Best I’ve owned.

Seems great if you use it enough. I love my brats, but it don't have enough storage space in my kitchen cabinets nor counter top to store it. It would end up in my basement amongst other gadgets that I forget about. I'd prolly use the stove and a skillet or grill them.

The basement is where my George Foreman grill is. I love it, but don't make the time to use it.

Damn, you are making me want brats:)

Also, $80 seems a bit steep.

My 2 cents.

I haven't got these yet for the air fryer, which I love. They seem to fit their need though.

The air fryer has found a place on the counter and use it a bunch.

I consider it an convection oven on steroids' and only heats 1 cf, vs the regular oven at 3 cf. Anyone on the fence, like I was, should go ahead and bite the bullet. If you don't like it, send it back.

It will be like the microwave oven. You find out you can do a lot with it:)

How have these units aged? Are you guys still happy with them?

Still loving the Series 9. If you don't have super thick hair, most people say the Series 7 is just as good and a bit cheaper.

Holladay 12-04-2022 03:43 AM

I had a Norelco 3 blade rotary forever. It cut well and was cheap. I finally went with a straight head. I got the Series 7 it works fine. 3 day stubble will take a few passes. It is also louder than the rotary.

For the price, I would do it again.

Nothing is going to compare to in the shower razor and cream shave.

Now couple of my friends ordered it too after my feedback.
Can be an alternative to the normal barbecue for the winter.

I have one of those. It was nice. The clean up sucks though. It is in my basement, for the last few years. I will try and brake it out this winter.

As most people, I have a computer in my office in the basement. The system is pretty good, but the monitor and sound is quite pedestrian. Since I am doing more and more with the setup, I decided to upgrade both.

Keep in mind, this is a desktop setup, not in a family room with 13' away from the screen. Same goes with the sound system. I am 2' away.

It is amazing!! I can actually watch some movies as they kinda should be.

Then the bonus:

The sound bar is only 21" wide. The sub fits behind the monitor, which rocks my desk!

Both were highly recommended. I much agree.

I might be late to the party, but it changed my computer viewing style.

Oh yea, monitor $125 from Walmart, sound via Amazon $80.

This coming from a dude that watched the first Batman VHS movie in '89 on a 19" CGA computer monitor with 4 other dudes in the apt bedroom in Germany:) That was cutting edge then.

Rain Man 10-20-2023 11:54 AM

I just got it, so maybe this review is premature, but I got this vacuum this week and so far it's everything I ever wanted in a stair vacuum.

My challenge is that I have four flights of stairs in my house, and my robot vacuum cleaner doesn't do stairs. I have an older portable (over the shoulder) vacuum, but it's heavy and you're always having to wrestle the cord and the shoulder strap.

So I did a little research and bought this guy:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DFJ122K...roduct_details

It weighs only 4.5 pounds and it's cordless, with a rechargable battery. The design is really nice because you can telescope it for floor use, shorten it to a convenient length for working your way up stairs, and even turn it into a hand-vac for couches and chairs. The little part on the floor is conveniently exactly the width of a stair step and very flexible, and it's easy to empty afterwards. The battery life isn't long, but it's long enough since I'm using this solely for stairs and not for big stretches of open floor prairie.

All that for under $100? I should have done this long ago.

I've got 2 Dyson stick vacuums. One at the office for quick carpet touch ups and one at home, mainly for the mancave. They aren't cheap though. You can get older refurbished at a reasonable price.

I read up on their testing and research exercises. They put them through hell. I've got an early model for +6 years and runs great.

Rainman, for $100, it looks like a steal. And yes, you should have done that years ago.

Damn, 4 flights of stairs? You live vertically:) I've said that the stairs will get me out of my house some day because of the TWO flights I have in the old farm house.

Keep us in the loop for the next 2-5 years on the durability of your unit.

Now that I've dove them a few times in various environments and different configurations I can give these puppies 20 thumbs up... I bought this Apeks MTX-RC "DIR Hogarthian" setup from a dealer in Italy and man is it awesome. It was flawless under the ice super bowl weekend in February, and equally perfect in the warm waters in Cozumel the week after the super bowl, and I was able to get them into the side mount configuration two weeks ago in Roatan. Wow, just WOW. You buy extreme cold water regulators thinking you're going to sacrifice ease of breathing and these puppies are, hands-down, the best breathing regulators I've ever had. And they came along at the right price to boot!!!

Best time ever.

OUTSTANDING!

I'm interested in this. Is it the "Kansas City - Sports Trivia Game" I see on amazon or something else?

Talk to me about pressurized shower heads. Who has bought one, were you happy with the purchase, and what brand do you have?

Also, do they come with filters you have to replace and other minor maintenance details someone should know about?

I'm a big fan of Speakman's shower heads. Tons of hotels use them. Here's their basic model, and the more expensive ones largely just add more sprayers and nicer finishes.

https://www.amazon.com/Speakman-S-20...dp/B0018LGZ04/

No maintenance that I'm aware of, though any shower head will eventually start to clog up if you've got hard water.

I'm pretty good about replacing my showerheads whenever in a new place and never noticed much of a difference. I just buy whatever is available at Target, usually around $20-30, and been pleased with all of them.

Nice.

Does the water pressure/flow while showering feel increased with this shower head? The place I'm at now has ok water pressure, and I'm looking for a shower head that will up the pressure whilst showering.

Same. I've been a fan of Waterpik's shower heads, but I'd like to find one that ups the pressure.

Newair is fantastic. You can shop their site.

Both my electric humidors are 69° and 70-72% humidity.

I own two of these.

I'm about due for a new showerhead since the water quality in my current place is ass. Water is so hard and full of minerals. The holes get clogged and I take my cigar poker to open the 60 or so holes and its not working so well.

I have a Delta with 5 or 6 different settings and I wouldn't give up a handheld for all the money in China.

Great for cleaning yourself, your hidden cracks, your twig and berries and the shower itself.

Take the head off and dip it in CLR for a few hours. Seesh.

The knob on the side lets you adjust between higher pressure / lower water flow (think air jets) and lower pressure / higher water flow (think waterfall). It's a dramatic improvement from what I had before, but I don't necessarily consider myself an expert on all things showerhead. :)
