At least relative to the other Chiefs teams of the Mahomes era, it appears very possible if not likely they’re going to need to be more committed and reliant on running the football this year. It may be a better path toward a winning formula with what appears another top five defense.

I think the offensive line has done a better job run blocking so far this year. They seem more aggressive. Probably because it seems the RPOs have dialed back, allowing them to really get after defenders more downfield.

You mix and match Kareem, Pacheco, and a very small bit of Perine behind that when it’s cold AF in Kansas City this January? We can play ball. Whether we add another WR or not.

and having a really strong running game is going to open up the passing game.

May not have pops long speed but man he saw the hole well and hit it hard. Pop doesn't always see the hole but Hunt was doing a great job feeling the blocks and maximizing them.

We may just have to hope we can keep winning ugly. It's the right year for it - lots of offenses are struggling.

Seeing hunt today really emphasizes how meh CEH and Pops vision is. Hunt sets up his blocks really well too.

In58men 09-29-2024 09:12 PM

Told ya, he looked sharp in warmups. Was running hard and making all the catches. I could tell he was motivated.

BWillie 09-29-2024 09:19 PM

Looked good. Hopefully the thought that he was playing injured last year is true. Looked to have some power and burst.

Pop has CEH vision but is fast enough to get away with it. He misses holes a lot and doesn't have the best lateral mobility. Can't wait for him to get back but Hunt has ability that he doesn't so we shouldn't suffer at all when it comes to the run game.

I seriously don’t know where this Hunt is washed narrative came from. He literally had 9 TDs last year while splitting carries and had 2 TDs in the playoffs. This is like the Nickelback hate, people hate them just because they were told to

Two years in a row sub 4 YPC and trending down. But from the eye test he looks good.

The offense looked much better when Hunt went in.

He looks great.

It kind of reminded me of when Antonio Brown hooked up with Tom Brady.

Brown had almost no reps with that NE team and immediately had a connection with Brady. He was going to be a perfect fit before he ****ed it all up immediately.

Kareem just fits this offense perfectly, and Reid knows how to use him perfectly.

Reminds me of CJ Anderson signing with the Rams in 2018.

He was great filling in for Gurley. Right guy for the right situation.

Not in THIS offense. His skill set suits it perfectly. That's why I paid no attention to anyone who who thought he'd be a shell of his former self. Dude looked great, and provided what has been missing, since he left. Just wait until the Chiefs work him into the passing game!

What was surprising was how easily he found the edge before making his cut.

The problem with our outside zone stuff is that it seems like we struggle to pressure the edge and open those cutback lanes. Teams just don't respect the edge.

Yesterday Hunt was pressing the edge nicely. He wasn't hitting it because he ain't THAT fast, but he was at least making it an option so the DL had to flow with him. And in the process they opened themselves up for that downhill cut into the gap.

Hunt just knew how to create a hole and when/where to hit it.

He just looked polished. Not dangerous, but effective.

Boxer_Chief 09-30-2024 11:01 AM

That was a damn good rush defense too, pretty impressive considering.

JPH83 09-30-2024 11:06 AM

I didn't think he was washed and said so here beforehand, but honestly that was better than I even hoped. He looked an immediate and substantial upgrade. I think he and Perine is absolutely solid enough.

It's all vision and feel.

It's why I don't.....I don't really care about speed at the RB spot. Sure, you have to have a certain baseline of speed but "breakaway" speed? Nah.

TheGuardian 09-30-2024 11:24 AM

There's only upside with Hunt back.

He'll mesh with the line in coming weeks and once Pop comes back we will have the best 1-2 punch in the league. Easily.

Crazy how that stuff works out. There could be a silver lining for Rashee getting injured too in that it expedites Worthy's learning curve.

Nah. Nickelback genuinely sucks. It's bad buttrock. You should be able to see that. That hate is not unfounded.

You're right about Hunt, though.

The Chiefs are fortunate to have stacked 4 wins during this rough time.

All we gotta do now is win the games we are supposed to win, and LIKELY we are the one seed.

We have EIGHT GAMES against teams .500 or worse left.

Five of those games are division opponents.

We also get to play Justin Fields.

Just take care of business. Mahomes and the one seed, we'll take our chances.

Eh - CJ2K never bothered to look for a hole - he just blasted to the edge and by dudes.

I'm fine with speed. I love speed. Give me ALL the speed at RB. I'll take Achane 100 times out of 100.

But they have to have a threshold level of vision. And if they don't have that speed, the threshold level is a lot higher.

DRM08 09-30-2024 01:48 PM

Perine is also pretty new to this team. Their two main running backs were not part of training camp or any other off-season workouts. The more time Kareem & Perine get to practice with the team, the more they can get involved in the passing game. Could be a nice development as the weeks go along.

I think I took him for the Raiders (along with Anthony Richardson, Brian Branch AND Rashee Rice - I killed it for those boys) in the CP Mock that year.

I love the dude. That kind of explosion is just so rare.

That says, he sure has sucked the hind teat the last couple of weeks. Without any threat of a downfield passing game, there's just nowhere for him to go.

I have 4 teams, 3 of which are keepers where you pay 'forward' a certain number of rounds off last season's selection for guys you keep. And I took Achane in the 10th or later in every league I was in last year so in those leagues I could keep him for anywhere from a 6th to a 9th.

Needless to say, I have a LOT of Achane stock.

And yeah, it hasn't worked out terribly well the last two weeks.

I had so many Charles vs. CJ arguments those days man. I really pissed me off how people couldn't see past CJs pure speed to see Charles was a much better actual running back. His vision and feel for the game were other worldly.

Charles is what you get when you have speed, contact balance AND vision.

One of the best to ever do it. Injuries and Scott Sister****ing Pioli robbed us of so much there.

Really easy one to remember.

Complementary as in 'a component part' -- complete.

Complimentary as in 'did a nice job' -- the other one.

Ask yourself if you're trying to say it completes a whole. If so, it's complementary. If not, it's probably complimentary.

Has any team run more star running backs into the ground than the Titans? Eddie George, Chris Johnson, and King Henry.

Well, I guess they only tried to run Henry into the ground.

People see the 2,000 yard season, and the speed, and they remember CJ2K, but the Chiefs were so bad, so not a lot of people outside of KC saw him play, and he really only has a single 5 TD game keeping him relevant on fantasy football forums.

Charles will never get the credit and recognition he deserves.

At this point in his career it's all about durability. He was never a blazer, ran a 4.6 at the combine. If he can stay healthy he can play another 4-5 years easily. Think I'm crazy? Frank Gore played forever. Not fast, always strong, durable, had a full steam ahead instinct.

Durability is the key.

Kareem brings something to this offense that was never replaced once he was gone. Yeah, D. Will was good. Yeah, Pacheco is pretty darn good. Kareem on this team, in this offense is a truly great player. The defenses feel his presence. They know what he brings, he has gravity.

Effing Juju scampered wide open for two huge chunk plays. Kelce who was in football Limbo for three weeks all of a sudden finds single coverage and open field.

Chiefs had a stretch where they pounded the rock five straight times and looked good doing it. Then guys were running wide open. When was the last time that happened? When was the last time it looked that easy? When was the last time it felt that good? Above all what was the major difference???

KAREEM EFFING HUNT!!!

I'd almost forgotten what lateral movement looks like from a Chiefs RB. I'm drooling at the idea of Hunt and Pacheco both in the rotation.

What Kareem does better than anyone on this team in the last six years is turn 3-yard gains into 5-yard gains.

In that vein he's almost Marcus-like.

Also, strangely I feel VERY confident when he gets the ball on 4th and 1. Again, Marcus-like.

He seems to have an incredible knack for getting the most out of his OL.

I mentioned that exact same thing to my wife during the game. And all of those extra 2 yard gains add up.

At least a couple times tonight he turned a blown up play into a 2-3 yard gain. Stuff that never looks sexy on the stat sheet but helps keep the drive alive. I can't believe this guy was sitting on the couch three weeks ago.

I don't think we've even done anything fun with him in the passing game yet.

I was expecting him to smoke some poor backup LB for the Saints on a wheel route tonight.

You know it's coming.

He'd be headed to Canton had he stayed. There is no doubt in my mind. They didn't love him in CLE. He played second fiddle to Nick Chubb. Here, he's a legend... in the making. :D

Kareem ran a hard game today, and took quite a few really tough tackles. Bounced right back up for more. Great to see him back.

Look at what creamy hunt does on 4th and 1 at the end of this clip.

I've never seen that from any of our other backs.

In his interview he was pretty humble. Heal up and get ready for a long grind with 12 games after the bye.

What I like especially like about Kareem is the fact he pretty much never fumbles and his ability to get the first down in shoet yardage situations. Pacheco is more explosive but he goes down easier.

Welcome back Kareem!
