Can someone please explain why he is not out on the floor? What was the point of fighting so hard to make him eligible if you are not going to play him?

Exactly! For Traylor to be out there instead of Diallo or Bragg, is really confusing. They both need minutes if they are going to be of any help in conference play. Traylor has no upside, he is what he is, but the two freshmen, they both have high ceilings, IMO.

Great analysis, especially this part about Traylor.

Yikes. Cheick Diallo by himself is committing just three fewer fouls per 40 minutes than Wisconsin's *entire team* did last season.

To be fair, Traylor is really good against the zone. He got lots of looks when we couldn't ****ing shoot last year. He can get the ball at the high post and see the floor well enough to get the ball to the open spot on the low block.

There were some articles about Cliff being really efficient. Traylor gave him a ****TON of looks because Cliff could move well enough to find the soft spot in the zone and dunk.

The rest of the stuff is right. He isn't big or skilled enough to score against man consistently. Has his head up his ass defensively for a few possessions every game. Is good for throwing it into the stands one possession a game.

He defends bigger size better than his size dictates. But it isn't good enough.

He really should be a 4 but isn't better than Ellis or Bragg. He would kick ass as a 3 if he had the skills.

I had really high hopes for him. Dude is an athletic freak. He moves really well for a guy as strong as he is. He can jump out of the gym. He's aggressive and had a lot of potential to be one hell of a matchup problem.

But he didn't ever get the skills to be any more than a post man, where he doesn't have the size to compete.

Yeah he's raw as hell, but continuing to park him on the bench in games like today is only going to be less beneficial for the team down the road.

I understand he is raw, he doesn't know the defense. I see some issues with not playing him besides the downsides of being a poor part of the defense and committing turnovers.

He has the most raw talent on the team. How does he reach his potential if he doesn't play? Your up 14-20 points at home. Why is he not out there learning and improving instead of Traylor and Lucas?

If we want to play with the top 10 teams every year and have a chance at a national championship, we need those best in the country one and done players. If we don't play them until the last 1/2 of season, they are not coming here. You are a top 5 player, would you want to set on the bench? You got Kentucky, Duke etc. that will play you right away. This is a major point of recruiting these top 5 players. I'm sure they are already telling these kids, you go to Kansas, you will set on the bench for most of the season.

Not really. McLemore, Wiggins, Selby, Oubre, Embiid. Did any of those guys sit on the bench? I would love to see Diallo get more playing time, but he's just way behind and has to learn some things before he can be trusted to be out there for extended minutes.

Self has almost always used his top tier freshman this way. It's frustrating, but at the same time, you can't really complain about the results.

You are up 14-20 at home. Completely outclassing a non conference opponent but he still cant get on the floor for significant minutes?

Self knows what he is doing here. He has his 8 to 12 guys in order to play conference play with that he knows is ready. He is playing them in a tune up game in that order before conference play opens.

Diallo missed so much not being able to play the first 10 games to get into this rotation. Self has guys that have worked hard, that understand when they need to be, what to do , and not mistake or turnover prone and unaware as Diallo is. He will have to earn that in practices and what little mop up time in B12 play.

Bambi 12-30-2015 11:33 AM

Looking like your rotation is as follows:

Mason
Graham
Selden
Ellis
Mickelson

Greene
Lucas
Traylor

And then in the tourney Bragg and Diallo are UNLEASHED!
