My guess is that he hadn't decided on going for it until it actually got to 4th down, which is the mistake there. It's either 4 downs all the way there (and you call your plays accordingly) or it is not.

It would have probably been better for our slight chance of ending up in the B12 championship game if KSU won here, but I can accept this outcome too.

I’ll add that our kicking game was shaky today, so yeah, I go for it if I’m making the decision.
