Whether they save him or not, the other group still knows they exist.

Whether they kill him or not, the risk that the other group finds them is the same.

The only way he is a danger, is if they force him to leave their group. Then, he has no choice but to try and find his buddies again.

If they let him stay, saving his life outweighs beating him up for info. Why would he try to run off to find his old group when:

1. they left him to die, whereas this group risked their lives to save him.

2. He said it himself, they never stay in the same place more than one night.

3. He has only been with their group a short while. The group has been traveling the country pretty much(confirmed by guys in the bar not being locals, one from Philly, and talking about going from rumor to rumor for safety), they only picked him up when they got to this town(confirmed b/c he's a local) and obviously don't plan on staying long, as they haven't set up shot anywhere else between here and Philly, why would they all of a sudden drop anchor here?

The only reason Rick is alive is because Randell is a bad shot with a rifle from high ground at about 40 yards none the less. That's a fair factor to consider. I'd let him live and put him in as many positions as possible to watch him when he didn't know he was being watched and be ready to take him out in a 2 second notice.

Also, he didn't try to leave the group even be benign to the new one after he saw teenage girls being raped if his story is true.

Old rules don't apply. They should have left him for the zombies or mercy kill.

Also, even with the dumb decision to bring him back in the heat of battle they're making this more complicated than it needs to be as leaders. Rick and Shane say "we're taking him 16 miles down the road, we'll be more careful this time". How far do you have to be before you can't hear a 45 caliber go off? 1 mile? 2?

Executing him in front of the group for lots of reasons is dumb. Drive 2 miles, off the guy, sip some whiskey for an hour and drive back saying "last we saw him he was holding up in an abandoned ___________".

The girls and Carl don't need to know the nitty gritty.

Maybe, but they've been setting up a final Rick/Shane confrontation as well as Carl moving further away from his humanity all season. They may follow the comics here.
