Teams have a bonus pool and can spend as much of it as wanted on a single player. I think any bonus of $100k or less doesn’t count against the pool. The top guys get bonuses into the 2-4 million range but it’s hard to go much above that without significant penalties.


It’s all about who they’re blocking for me.

Now that Mondesi is up, he should play every day. His bat should always be in the lineup.

Orlando is not blocking anyone RIGHT NOW so I’m ok with it, but he needs to hit the road once Bonifacio completes his assignment to Omaha and is re-called.

I hate that Ned keeps playing Esky instead of Mondesi.

so what kind of competitive balance or compensatory picks will we get for losing Butera, Duda, Esky, Moose (or do we get one with a mutual option?), and Hammel (mutual option)?

Most likely none. They would have to offer them a qualifying offer first (1 year, $17.4 mil in 2017) which the would have to reject and I don't think most of those guys would turn that down.

Boras would reject a QO for Moose... surely.

I don't think the Royals can offer him one this year.
