I have no clue on what people have bet but I will weigh in on one thing that has bugged me for awhile. The "leave for x amount of time" bets are dumb.

New policy:

They will NEVER be enforced by me or the other mods. On the other hand, I have no problem enforcing sig bets and all other manner of punishments for people running their mouth and being wrong.

When was he mediocre? He did what he had to do to win every game won. He did what he had to do when the defense was part of the team. He is doing what he has to do without them. Why so much hate? These QB comparisons are stupid.

he brought it up quite a few times and was so sure of himself he should at least say he was wrong.

If you listen to some of them he wasn't that good today because of the screens. Bottom line is he threw 5td passes. The screen plays were what was called. What do you want him to do say screw you coach i need to throw it downfield?

I thought when we signed him he was average but he is better than a lot of the QB's in the league.. And he got us to the Playoffs so yes he needs a 5 year contract.. probably 10 million first year against the cap, 20 million for the remainder with 39 million guaranteed.. payable in the first 3 years.

Why would anyone wish for our QB to reduce his level of play to that of Geno? We already endured 4 years of Cassel. I don't want to relive that...

FringeNC 12-15-2013 07:26 PM

I made a thread about it at the beginning of the year, arguing Andy Reid may turn Smith into Rich Gannon, and he seems to have succeeded. Like Gannon, Smith IS a game manager but is so smart (and pretty athletic) that he's a game manager who not only doesn't lose games but wins them.

I think what would really silence the critics would be to do this against Indy or even San Diego. Two teams actually worth a damn. 5 td's is 5 td's, but I want to see that type of production against higher tier opponents. Again, I'm not AS hating here, he had a great game.

It's Clay, what did you expect? He's been wrong about everything this year. He has to hang his hat on something, so it's going to be how far Smith's passes travel.

I have no problem saying that. I even said in the extension thread during the game I still want to see what he does in the playoffs. But to whine about the passes being screen passes is just pointless. What do we get 8 points instead of 7 if the ball goes down field?

I just want Smith to do what he did the first time against the Chargers just need one once of Defense and the Chiefs can win against just about everyone. But he has to do it more then once

FloridaMan88 12-15-2013 08:26 PM

Let's wait and see what Alex Smith does in the playoffs.

Has he been an upgrade over the Chiefs QB situation last year? Obviously yes, that isn't hard to do.

Has he exceed expectations? Yes

But it is going to take more than two good games against terrible teams to determine if he is the answer at QB to advance the Chiefs in the playoffs.

On a screen pass, you give 99 percent of the credit to the RB, even if Joseph ****ing Clifford Montana is throwing the ball.

This is true, but also stupid. It's how days like this happen. short passes that become big plays is how this offense works. Many of Mannings throws are WR screens. I know Smith is no Manning, but I'm not gonna start saying some of his TDs don't count because the WR did most of the work.

Strongside 12-15-2013 08:34 PM

I mean, something like 75% of Peyton Manning's yardage has come after the catch this season.

Who gives a shit. A touchdown pass is a touchdown pass. They all score the same amount of points whether they are hard throws or easy throws.

Actually a lot of the time the offensive line deserves a lot of credit too on screen plays... if they don't get out in space and pick up defenders the screen gets blown up. Anybody who has actually watched Chiefs football in the last 10 years should understand that.

Mosbonian 12-15-2013 08:39 PM

The problem is that ALL QB's pad their stats against bad defenses...even the good ones like Manning, Rodgers, and Brady.

Face it....Manning has padded his stats against the Chiefs 2 times , and our defense has been pathetic recently.

@StevePalazzolo: Geno Smith finished with four air yards on his eight completions. 111 of his 115 yards came after the catch Vs Saints

On a screen pass, you give 99 percent of the credit to the RB, even if Joseph ****ing Clifford Montana is throwing the ball.

Thinking about this.....so in reality the credit goes to the RB and all his blockers, because without them he goes nowhere.

So you need to adjust your % of credit otherwise you are looking bad here.
