Flanny was on 610 and made it sound like they wouldn't trade Whit and use him as a transition guy. Hopefully they get a good offer.

I haven’t watched one pitch this season. I read this thread, and all the Royals development news I can find, but I can’t be bothered to watch a team of largely jags lose 100+ games. I’ll be back to full time fandom long before we are competitive again, but this break has been cathartic.

You're a great fan

Why would Whit get a good trade offer?

They hope he turns into Ben Zobrist. He's not there yet, or even close to what Zobrist was in 2009, but he's got a chance.

To me the idea of not competing until 2022 or something seems weird. How can I get excited about that when none of the current players except maybe Mondesi will be around?

It would be nice to at least fantasize about a run in 2020 with Sal, Whit and Soler. I was going to name some other players but ugh that's it. Maybe never mind.

He has every right to feel that way, the Royals screwed the pooch with their farm system for the better part of the last 6 years. Now they have a bloated payroll due to signing guys because they couldn't produce replacements and now they are an old shitty team with no young players in sight.

Also this false narrative they are spinning as an organization is a joke to me. "This is what happens when you win a world championship" Yost said yesterday on the radio..no dude it is not. This is what happens when you have a GM that can't identify talent for a long period of time.

Is Houston just going to magically suck because they won? Oh yea they're not and they've made a ton of trades and their system isn't ranked as the worst.

The Royals system doesn't suck because they won, even though they seem to want everyone to believe that, it sucks because they made a ton of shit decisions.

Transition player? Sounds like Moore thinks we will be good in a few years. Trade them, stock the farm with 18-21 year olds and load up on high draft picks. 3-4 years of 1st-5th pick, plus the talent from trading our good old guys, plus a few free agent pieces and in 6 years we might have a playoff team for 6 years.

None of this 'keep old guys, try to get close to .500 and get the 15th pick overall and be mediocre for several decades.'

Transition to what? You need a transition if you see some promise or potential in 2-3 years. We have almost no viable talent in the high majors. Trading Merrifield and Perez potentially turns a 5-6 year rebuild into a 3-4 year rebuild IF we get a decent return. On their current trajectory we have to be almost perfect in the draft (as perfect as one can be in the MLB draft) and hope for some gems in the international market.

Dayton Moore is very anti-tanking and thinks he has to keep guys for the fans to cheer for...he's also very sentimental.

I really don't think he understands just how awful this team is because these are all guys he brought in. It's not hard to make decisions when you are new and didn't bring everyone in but when that shit system and MLB roster is all his guys...it's like being to close to the situation to see it for what it is.

I think he really believed this team could win 80 games this year with his moves.

He can do whatever he wants, but he can't call himself a diehard anymore. That was the only point I made.

I still follow but I do find myself doing other things at times...I am also in no way going to go watch a bad product in 100 degree heat.
