The most learned literary scholars have a very small scope of expertise, but this is the nature of advanced degrees. It's about learning more and more and more about less and less and less.

Player hatin' degrees are incredibly focused, for example, and there's nothing "pseudo" about this.

Sounds like teaching at the university level is right up their alley. Sure the PhDs will be nice to look at, but I really do hope that neither achieve anything that even remotely resembles a successful publishing.
