Ooooh, is that place less than a year old? I haven't been & I so want to now. Modern German is capable of some really neat food; I live a few blocks away from a restaurant called Brauhaus Schmitz, whose chef (Jeremy Nolan) literally wrote the book on modern German cuisine.

It's somewhere around that length of time I think. I was there in March and the entree I had isn't even on the menu ever anymore so maybe it just was a bad choice on my part. It was a stuffed pork chop with butterspatzle, and it looks like the similar dish now is a jagerschnitzle with same. What I had wasn't bad it was just a bit bland, which is silly in a German restaurant!

Oh dang, that's high praise. That's also one of the things I never managed to order at Port Fonda, so I'll have to remember this post next time I'm in KC.

You are wrong. So very, very wrong.

It is all part of the dish. Listen I am not saying they were bad just not the best. We will just have to agree to disagree.

Start a poll. With pics. We will settle this.

The sandwiches are nearly identical, down to the presentation and both are great. Rick's sauce has a more subtle heat and Port Fonda's sauce is upfront, bold, and slightly smokier.

Does the word hipster actually mean anything anymore? How is a really popular place a lot of people go to a "hipster" place.

Well, what happened is it became a hipster place, but then it got so popular and successful that hipsters started to hate it. And then found a new place that was disgusting and shitty, and told people it was good, because nobody else goes there. That's what hipsters do, they hate things that are good, efficient and successful.

If you guys are ever in Vegas, and need some BBQ to hold you over. Rollin Smoke BBQ is pretty good, all the rest of them I've tried were trash.

I'd like to know how many guys from KC actually eat BBQ when they're out of town. If I lived in KC, I wouldn't even bother eating it elsewhere unless it was one of the staple cities.

Wait...so the people that are calling it bad are the hipsters?

I am still confused.

For me it'd be:

Bluestem
The Rieger Hotel Grill & Exchange
The American Restaurant
Justus Drugstore (well, its in Smithville, but still)
El Camino Real (unless you can get superb al pastor tacos with handmade to order tortillas where you live, then I would put Novel or Julian or Rye in the 5th spot.)

Agree with this though have not done The American yet. I am not that into Julian personally I think it is too cute for its own good but this list is legit. Despite its location Cork and Cleaver is doing some interesting things worth checking out.

Your crazy. Go to Korma Sutra IMO it is the best Indian food in KC and you won't be disappointed.

As far as the OP goes I haven't gone to Q39 yet but I am thinking about making a trip up there tomorrow to give it a try to see how well it matches up with Joe's.

Does Korma Sutra have a buffet?

No, hipsters find things that suck, then convince themselves they are cool, because they are different, and the ones who thought of it.

Smoking gun in nkc is pretty cool and good but it's not up there with the big guys yet

I like Bryant's a lot its just one of those things they have good days and bad days the consistency isn't where I like for paying the money.
