Yeah, on it's face this does look ****ing nutty, but Dorsey's not an idiot - I suspect, like the Parker deal before it, that the structure will tell the tale on this one. Probably more like a 4 year deal with an AAV in the neighborhood of $6 million/season over the 4 years.

Still more than I'd have paid, though. Guard's the kind of position you should churn through in the draft and look to save money for the impact players on your roster.

Or hey - look at it from this perspective: that money has to come from somewhere (as I expect the extension won't kick in until the 2018 season), so that would seem to suggest that Smith isn't going to be on the roster in 2018.
Come on dude I can name 3 maybe 4 guys Dorsey has extended and overpaid for. They aren't in a shitty cap situation year after year for nothing.

They're in shitty cap situations yet they are able to keep extending and signing people they want to keep.

Yeah that's why Poe is going to walk and CP was right there was no drop off between Gaines and Sean Smith. Hudson sucks too glad they couldn't resign him.

If they wanted to keep those guys, they could have.

How many of those guys they've let go have been really missed?

They've done a great job of cutting ties with guys at the right time/$ point.

Outside of Charles that is.
