Yeah, or you can also look at it like this-

Keeping Houston at $21 and trading Ford's $16 m leaves you at -$5 net.
Cutting Houston leaves $8 in dead money, and keeping Ford will cost you $16 m. = -$24 million net.

Right?

Chris Meck 02-21-2019 05:55 PM

holy shit, is that right?

It's literally cheaper to keep Houston than Ford. I hadn't looked at it from that angle.

$21 million to keep Houston
$24 million give or take to cut him and keep Ford.

well, I mean unless i'm missing something.

Wow. Yeah. When you look at it like that, I'm tagging and trading Ford ASAP. Best pass rusher on the market, you're gonna get a nice pick out of that.

Play Houston one more year, draft his replacement with the Ford pick and get on with your life.

We need complete, tough football players, not oft injured one trick ponies... Houston may be aging, but he is the more well rounded player by a country mile

I知 in the minority that badly wants to keep them both. Houston was a beast in all aspects of the game when he was healthy last year. Ford was one of the top 5 pass rushers in the league but without Houston they値l double him and he値l likely fade into being a good but not great OLB.

Houston doesn't want to take a pay cut so they're going to be forced to cut him.

So when did this come out? Guess I missed him saying he wouldn稚 restructure.

You literally can't.

Didn’t read whole thread my bad lol

I think we've been looking at this all wrong.
Of course the tag for Ford was coming; right move no matter what.

I don't think they keep Ford. He's literally more expensive. I think the plan IS and has always been to trade him on the tag and keep Houston.

It's literally cheaper and he's the better all-around player.

Not only that, but Ford's stock isn't going any higher. You know it, I know it. What do we do when the stock is high on a player that could easily break with a cool breeze in the trees?

I actually feel stupid for not realizing this sooner.

It's literally cheaper to keep the better all around player; and you'll pick up a high pick too.

I mean it's kind of a no-brainer.

You draft a DE with the Ford pick and then next year you can cut Houston with only $1.5 m dead cap.

There's no ****ing way that's not the plan.

Either way it goes you're going to get at least a #2 for Ford. You'll have 4 picks in the first two rounds. Even if you stand pat, you can get a CB, a S, and a DE in that first 64 picks.

A team trading for Houston would be getting him with no guaranteed money and 2years for about 31m.

A team trading for Ford would be getting him on a 1 year deal for about 16.

When you trade for a player, you only owe the base salary, the trading team is on the hook for the prorated portion of what’s already been paid in a bonus.

Damn. I was hoping they planned to tag and trade Ford but guess not. If this is the route they are taking they need to find a way to release Berry regardless of the cap hit. Just start fresh.

CoMoChief 02-21-2019 10:49 PM

Pay 'em both.

Hell the Broncos manipulated and paid players under the table for years.

Why doesn't Clark just say "Hey take a paycut to help our books, and I'll make up the difference under the table off record"

Problem solved. If you aint cheatin, you aint tryin.
