Another converted WR with all the natural athletic skills you could possibly want in the perfect CB. Just... needs coaching. A loooot of coaching. But hey, every team needs a Marcus Cooper, right?
Also, I hope the Chiefs draft him so when he gets thrust onto the field due to injury or because everybody ahead of him sucks and he struggles, people like Sofa King and loochy will make "Something is wrong in the state of Denmark" jokes The Minnesota Vikings select Stephen Denmark, CB, Valdosta State |
Minnesota Vikings draft:
1.18- Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama 2.50- Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama 3.82- Elgton Jenkins, C, Mississippi State 4.121- Renell Wren, DT, Houston 6.192- Rodney Anderson, RB, Oklahoma 6.211- Drew Sample, TE, Washington 7.249- Keesean Johnson, WR, Fresno State 7.252- Stephen Denmark, CB, Valdosta State Meh. The Vikings just needed a bunch of OL, so that's what I gave them. They're supposedly set at their starters at OT, but it's not like those guys weren't part of the problem, either. Reiff played some guard in college, and that's just probably how they'll have to fix their interior spots. I think Jonah Williams was among the better picks they could have gotten in the first round, and their biggest hole on the OL is starting center. Jenkins will fill that admirably from day 1. Everything else... bleh. Whatever. It's kind of disappointing, but then again, so are the Vikings. I don't feel like I wronged anybody too important with this draft. Some neat little boom-or-bust (most likely bust) kind of players towards the back end of this draft, though. I also think Drew Sample has a place in the NFL, even as a career TE2 for some team. |
FYI - I’m a couple hrs out from being able to pick. Dealing with a family health issue today.
|
San Francisco 49ers draft:
1(2). Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky 2(36). Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn St. 3(67). Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis 4(105). Christian Miller, EDGE, Alabama 6(177). Dru Samia, OG, Oklahoma 6(214). Jamal Peters, DB, Mississippi St. 7(245). Iman Marshall, CB, USC Went heavy on defense, noticeably at pass rush and secondary. 49ers in the same division as the Rams, they're gonna have to stop that passing attack and get to the QB. Josh Allen and Dee Ford coming off the edges should provide some really good pass rush, but Dee Ford is good for about 4 games in the tub due to inj, so it's good to have some depth there which is why Christian Miller was also drafted, and their secondary isn't that great, and Sherman is just a shell of his former self from his SEA days. Thought 49ers could use some interior OL depth and another RB to compliment Matt Breida. |
How many RBs do the 49ers need? They have Breida, McKinnon and Tevin Coleman.
|
Imma be real interested to see if CP is anywhere close to right on Oruwariye.
He's become a guy some folks are suggesting we take in the first round. I wouldn't be shocked to see him there for us with one of our 2nds. He just gained traction here and suddenly he's the #2 CB in the draft and a viable day 1 selection... Man, I just don't see it. |
Houston Texans draft:
1(23). De'Andre Baker, CB, Georgia 2(54). D'Andre Walker, EDGE, Georgia 2(55). Darnell Savage, FS, Maryland 3(87). Andy Isabella, WR, UMass 5(162). Darwin Thompson, RB, Utah St 6(197). Jalen Jelks, EDGE, Oregon 7(239). Xavier Crawford, CB, Central Michigan Texans had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL last yr, so their secondary needed an overhaul, also drafted some depth at the pass rusher positions. Isabella and Thompson could be very good role players in that offense. Tried to draft a TE but the board just didn't fall the way I wanted it to at the time, oh well. Watson throwing it to Hopkins, Fuller, and Isabella and Miller/Henderson as a 1-2 punch coming out of the backfield could be a handful for a lot of defenses in the AFC. |

With pick 253, The LA Rams Select Nate Hall, OLB, Northwestern
Sorry for the delay. Weird day |
Never looked at this but wow. Stanley Morgan in the 7th is criminal. I think he's a top 10ish WR in the class that just gets ignored because he's from Nebraska and has no flash. Teams will regret sleeping on him and I'm praying we aren't one of them.
|
With the 254th pick, the Kings of Rings, the Dynasty, the Mother****ing Cheating Whores, the nations favorite team to hate, the New England Patriots select Nik Needham, CB, UTEP.
Bill lets it all out and kisses the hooker that just got done blowing Bob after bagging himself an ultra-athletic, super physical, sticky cover corner at the end of the draft. |
Well here's your New England Patriots draft. Overall, extremely happy with the values. A lot of picks to make though, holy shit.
1-032. Johnathan Abram, S, Mississippi State 2-056. Zach Allen, ER, Boston College 2-064. Kahale Warring, TE, San Diego State 3-074. Max Scharping, OT, Northern Illinois 3-098. Gerald Willis, DL, Miami 3-102. Miles Boykin, WR, Notre Dame 4-135. Jarrett Stidham, QB, Auburn 6-207. Dontavius Russell, DL, Auburn 7-241. Karan Higdon, RB, Michigan 7-248. Cole Holcomb, LB, North Carolina 7-254. Nik Needham, CB, UTEP The Patriots never really have big needs when it comes to the draft because they sign so many mid-tier free agents but there's a few upgrades I felt they needed to focus on and the losses on the D-Line were pretty big. Patrick Chung hasn't been very good the past couple years so I think an upgrade is in order there and if Abrams is there at 32 then he makes a ton of sense. He's my #1 SS in this draft and on most pundits boards because he can do everything. He's not the playmaking coverage type that Thornhill is but he's better in the box, precisely where the Pats need him. Zach Allen was a huge value in my mind at 56 and is a guy I see replacing Trey Flowers. I think Kahale Warring is a guy that doesn't get enough love at TE but he's been climbing boards steadily and should be a day 2 pick. The Pats will love his complete game, size, and measurables. The only thing that could have hurt that team more than losing Gronk would be losing Brady, so they have to replace him early. After losing Trent Brown to free agency and the uncertainty regarding Isaiah Wynn's health, I had to give the Pats some insurance at LT and Scharping is exactly the type of player Bill goes after on the OL. The Pats lost Malcolm Brown in the middle of that DL as well, so snagging Gerald Willis in the late 3rd and Dontavius Russell in the late 6th are guys I think could help there. Both were really solid values so I'm happy I waited for things to fall there. The Patriots ALWAYS need WR help and it's rare that they address it in the draft, but I think they almost have to this season because they lost so much. I picked up Miles Boykin in the late third as a guy that seems to fit their metric for 3-cone. After that, Stidham was a steal at QB in the latter part of the 4th and is at least a good backup if he can't become the heir to Brady. Higdon was a value pick at RB as a backup to Michel. Holcomb is a guy that probably goes in by the end of the 5th and is athletic and is a damn good, instinctive player to boot. Needham is another guy that I think goes by the end of the 5th. He is sticky in coverage and great in press, plus he ran in the 4.3's at his pro day at 6'0" 190. |
Geez, how did the Patriots end up with so many high picks? I hate the Patriots.

Traded a 2018 2nd for 2018 4th and 2019 2nd Traded a 2018 4th for a 2019 3rd Other 2 3rds are comps I wouldn't mind if Veach employed that strategy at all... Those 2nds are both low in the round, flipping it for a high 4th and 2020 2nd would be a nice play IMO. |
Someone needs to pick for htismaqe again, unless he is back?
|
This would be a homerun pick for them had they not just signed Collins but as it stands is a double in the gap.
Washington selects: Malik Gant, S, Marshall The have Collins but Gant is something of a supercharged Sorensen with better tackling. Hes a long-term SS who could contribute late this year as a 3rd safety and probably immediately on STs. Not an area of need, just a good, versatile player. |
There are a lot of guys waiting anxiously for kccrow, hoping to be drafted by the NFL.

Sorry guys was away from a PC today.
With the final pick of the 2019 CP Mock, the Arizona Cardinals select Derwin Gray, OT, Maryland. |
7 rounds and not one **** up the entire draft. That's a new record.
|
And with that pick, that's a wrap for the Arizona Cardinals and this draft. Thanks for another good time.
1-001. Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma 2-033. Juan Thornhill, S, Virginia 3-065. Jaylon Ferguson, ER, Louisiana Tech 4-104. Khalen Saunders, NT, Western Illinois 5-140. David Sills, WR, West Virginia 6-175. Bryce Love, RB, Stanford 6-180. Kingsley Keke, DL, Texas A&M 7-250. Anthony Johnson, WR, Buffalo 7-251. Jordan Brailford, ER, Oklahoma State 7-256. Derwin Gray, OT, Maryland I felt like I didn't really have to do a whole lot in terms of drafting purely for need with the Cardinals because they did so much in the offseason free agency period to address major issues. They went out and traded for Marcus Gilbert at RT, signed JR Sweezy and Max Garcia at OG, Darius Philon at DT, Terrell Suggs and Brooks Reed at OLB, Robert Alford at CB, Charles Clay at TE, and re-signed Larry Fitzgerald at WR. Overall, I felt like I had to pick Kyler Murray at 1 even though I really would not as a GM of that franchise. After that, I filled their hole at FS with the guy I feel is the biggest playmaker at DB in this draft in Thornhill. My focus then was to upgrade as much of the defensive front seven as I could and put weapons around their QB. Ferguson is a solid deal as an edge rusher in the early 3rd. Saunders is a pocket collapsing nose that I felt was a relative steal in the 4th. Keke, who is probably a 3rd or 4th rounder I got in the 6th and would make a great 3-4 DE. I like Brailford as a developmental backup. I think that would be a good boost of talent there to develop for the future. Offensively, I got David Sills around where I expected and Anthony Johnson far later than expected. Some sites have Johnson as a top 120 guy. I took a shot on Bryce Love returning to health. He's a thrasher with big-time speed like Jamal Charles and could be a good get in the 6th round. Gray is a mammoth dude that actually played pretty well at OT in the Big 10 but I'm not sure he has the athleticism to stick out there in the pros so I project him moving inside. |

Buffalo - Oliver Philly - Dillard What did we win? |

Haskins, Simmons, Howard, McGary and Collier; that's 5 in the first round.
Veach made the right move in trading for Clark. The board was not good for KC @ 29. |

Could have given up just a 3rd to move up and take Sweat in all likelihood but Clark is a better player so it's a wash IMO.

I'm just dumbfounded that Morgan and Fields went undrafted. And Omenihu I knew was a real risk for a fall given the dearth of 4-3 teams and lack of scheme versatility. And yet we still gave up half a !@#$ing draft worth of draft capital to acquire Frank Clark. |

Sometimes guys just end up the #2 or #3 pick on every team's draft board and just keep sliiiiiiding. The next round they're still there but now you're thinking you see another value play at a position you need to have and he slides again. I had to do this draft for a few years before I really understood how these in-draft slides work. It isn't that these guys are clearly worse prospects than a dozen or more guys taken before them - it's that they just didn't have that 1 team at any point that moved them to the top of the draft board while they may have had 20 teams that were routinely staking them at #2. Just a strange phenomenon that you don't really figure out until you're actually doing a competitive(ish) draft instead of a dozen different mock draft simulators. I'll bet most teams already do this but I'll be honest - the CP mock has convinced me that if I were a GM, I'd take my 15 most trusted scouts/personnel guys and we'd all run with 2 teams and run a draft. If I had 32 guys I trusted, all the better. And we'd do that at least once a week once the season ended. Seeing Sills slide like that after saying "man, I spent 3 rounds talking myself out of him every time" just perfectly demonstrated that feel that I've had with the draft for a few years. In many ways it's better to be a polarizing prospect because then SOMEONE will love you and you'll get picked. Darius Slayton probably had a lower 'aggregate' rank on NFL draft boards than Sills - didn't matter. Kelvin Harmon falling behind Travis Fulgham is a similar phenomenon. I think that's how Stanley Morgan went undrafted; just nothing to wow anyone but damn he looks solid to me. I gambled on Ratliff-Williams thinking there might be one team out there that fell in love with him and took him higher than some 'aggregate' rankings would have him, but the risk is that they don't and boom - UDFA. This is a fun exercise every year and I feel like there really are things to be learned from simply doing it, moreso than the outcomes. |

San Francisco 49ers draft:
1(2). Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky (#7) - Kind of surprised he dropped this far 2(36). Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn St. (#146) - REALLY surprised he dropped that far 3(67). Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis (#70) - pretty much nailed this 4(105). Christian Miller, EDGE, Alabama (#115) - pretty much nailed this 6(177). Dru Samia, OG, Oklahoma (#114) - Got good value here I think. 6(214). Jamal Peters, DB, Mississippi St. (UDFA) - Meh oh well, I had 3-4 players go off my board in the last 10 picks right before I was selecting, and was caught with my pants around my ankles 7(245). Iman Marshall, CB, USC (#127) Another good value pick I'd give this a B or B- Nothing too special...but SF thinks they can get a couple early impact players out of this draft, maybe a couple/few others can be good role players and provide solid depth. |
Quote:
So it's impossible to really do this draft in hindsight because I know a little too much about who went where, but I think I can fairly say I'd have gone: 29: Byron Murphy 56: I'd have gone ahead and made this deal but I'd have gone with Adderley instead of Hardman. I liked Hardman, but man I didn't like him that much. 63: Dre'mont Jones (still love him as a rusher) 93: Miles Boykin Now had I gambled at 61 and hoped Adderley slid to me, I'd have gone with Thornhill at 61 when he didn't and then taken DeAndre Walker with the 5th we traded away at 168. At 203 I'd have gone WR again even having just taken Boykin because I'd have seen too much value in Kelvin Harmon. At 214 I'd have taken Darwin Thompson; I see what the Chiefs like in him and at 216 I'd have taken Mark Fields - I'm still just dumbfounded he went undrafted. Maybe with Murphy in the fold I'd have gone with Dax Raymond as TE2 but I'm a big fan of Fields - I'd have almost certainly snapped him up there. So my actual draft wouldn't have been a whole lot different from what KC did (especially getting Fields as a UDFA). From a strictly draft standpoint, I kinda like the Chiefs draft, even if I'd have done a few things differently. I'm still struggling with how much they gave up to get Clark though. |
