On the one hand, losing to Princeton is a very Mizzou thing. OTOH, if you had told me before the season that they would finish fourth in the SEC and win a tournament game, I would’ve been overjoyed
|
They didn’t even try tonight.

Turned this abortion off long ago.

Sorry fellas, we'll all enjoy the rest of the tourney without the stress.

over |
Outplayed in every phase. Princeton was by far the better team today and deserves the win. Nothing from Hodge, Diarra played well for 2 minutes then didn’t guard anyone or block out the rest of the game. Carter was the only guy who showed up.
Still a great season, looking forward to next season. |

Silver lining, KU lost by 650 points |
I'm excited about next year. Gates started with basically nothing and went this far with a bunch of mid major transfers. The future looks good.
|
And peace resounded on Chiefs Planet as both KU and MU fans sipped their beers with tears together.

Man.
Mizzou saw that '15' and just flat ****ing didn't show up. It wasn't even a 'man, those guys were hot' or 'man, we just couldn't finish' They tried. We didn't. Got doubled up on the glass by a team that doesn't have a size or athleticism advantage. Did we get a single second chance bucket? Did we keep them under 20? It was just a completely lifeless performance and it started from the opening tip when Princeton was just blowing past the defense without making a move or setting a screen. Lazy lazy lazy lazy ass basketball and these guys should hang their ****ing heads. It ruins the entire season for me. Many of these are going to be 1 and done guys and all I'll ever remember them for is ****ing putting a stamp on an NCAA tournament game. I just cannot forgive that. |
Tough way for the season to end, but it was a fun one.
Top 4 conference finish, conference tournament semis, won a game in the tournament. It's a building block for the team and program and that's how I'll look at it. If Kobe Brown comes back like I think he will, next year will be a lot of fun. I also gained so much confidence in Gates. Keep in mind that this team accomplished all of this despite not getting much contribution from Isaiah Mosely and Jamorrion Sharp deciding to stay at Western Kentucky (because Stansbury begged him to come back and help him not get fired, then got fired anyway because he sucks). Add a better option than Gholston for late in the shot clock shot creation and a defensive and rebounding dynamo in the middle and this team is excellent. His vision for how to bring this together was excellent. Some bad breaks left it short of what it could have been. |

Mizzou may never get this far again. For average MU fan, the Norm days are over. Great talent in portal days are not lookin at Mizzou
Get pictures These are now the days gone by |
Nothing at all to hang heads in shame. Looks like Mizzou got a mighty fine coach recruit some length and defense and play with anyone. Hand it to Princeton they did everything right and I hope they keep it going.

Princeton was not lucky in that game. They probably should have scored 100 points. That was a complete and total ass-whipping that was much worse than the score indicated. They completely dissected Mizzou on every offensive possession, and Mizzou could never break them down in the half court. They looked like a mid-level SOCON team on offense --no ball movement, forced threes, and they kept giving Princeton the single most efficient look in basketball on every possession--a wide open corner three.
Princeton played well, but Mizzou probably would have lost to anyone else who played today, including Furman. That was a heinous performance. |

I never expected to make the tourney this year, but holy shit if we could have just showed up against Princeton and won, then we had a legit shot at an elite 8 appearance and only would have had to play a 10, 15, and a 6 to get there. That's a real kick in the nuts lol.

Fun fact, due to prior commitments, I missed out on watching both tourney games. Regarding this season, I've watched more Mizzou basketball this year than the last 5 combined. They were a blast to watch and I'm looking forward to seeing what Gates can do with next year's squad. |

They just played the best basketball we've seen from a Mizzou team in over a decade. I get that the loss absolutely sucked but there's a lot to look forward to going forward.

Sharp would be interesting get for Mizzou. He never was healthy at Missouri State. If he was healthy, we probably win the Valley with him and Mosley. He is a bootheel kid and his coach who is now at Austin Peay is from the neighboring town. So I wouldn't be surprised he follows him there. But if healthy, he would fit Gates' style of play.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">DeMarcus Sharp tells ESPN he’s now considering Loyola Chicago, Austin Peay and Missouri. <a href="https://t.co/446aNmF4Yy">https://t.co/446aNmF4Yy</a></p>— Jeff Borzello (@jeffborzello) <a href="https://twitter.com/jeffborzello/status/1638238668602179585?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 21, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

The Tigers landed John Tonje from Colorado State today. 6-4 wing who can shoot it. Compared to Gholson/Hodge, more of a shooter than Gholston, more of a slasher than Hodge. Little more quickness/bounce than either.
If Mosely comes back, which is a possibility, he and Tonje would be a nice set of wings to rely on. |

I don't have much interest in Love at all. He's incredibly inefficient. If Gates wants him, I'll trust it (he has earned that), but he hasn't been good. |

2 years ago Love demonstrated he COULD shoot from range. This year he demonstrated he COULD score fairly well from inside the arc. What he's never done is show he can do BOTH at the same time. But if he owns both skills and neither age nor injury have taken them away, wouldn't it stand to reason that there's at least a non-zero chance he could combine them? He was just a better player as a Sophomore than he was this year. But he did develop in a couple areas and if can take that sophomore level and add where he improved as a jr, that's a genuinely excellent ballplayer. |

Weren't we predicted to land Sharp the LAST time he entered the portal?
As for Diarra - eh, just never was all that impressed by him. He looked like he'd peak as a Justin Gage sort of energy forward. If he entered the portal after a bunch of upper classmen previously ahead of him graduated, that suggests that perhaps Gates let him know he was probably due to get layered again. I just can't imagine him leaving if a path to playing time opened up ahead of him for a team he experienced success with. |

There is a ton of big talent in the portal this year. I'm hoping they don't actually get love and can get one or 2 of the really tall dudes and then add a scorer.
Max Abmas - Oral Roberts - Big time 3 point shooter and is 16th in made 3 pointers. Shoots 38.8% for his career from 3. LJ Cryer - Baylor - Another big time 3 point shooter. He is 42.5% from 3 in his career and hit 41.5% last year on 6.2 threes per game. Also has become a very good FT shooter and made 59/66 last year. Probably won't get either of those 2. I'm hoping we can get one top 10 guy and a couple top 30 guys. Also really hoping Brown stays and Mosely gets his mind right. |
