Didn't say he wasn't - people just keep saying Earl Thomas won't matter because it's all our CBs fault. What I'm saying is it's not all the CB's fault. They don't suck anymore than anyone else on our defense.

There is an argument for every group to be the worst. But our glaring weaknesses are at LB. Berry likes to play up and Thomas loves to ball hawk and play deep. Perfect combination at safety that can really mask our LB problem.

It sounds rough on the surface but if that pick is #32, it’s really not that bad.

Mr. Arrowhead 09-25-2018 08:29 PM

no way in hell i would give up a first lmao

O.city 09-25-2018 08:29 PM

I would hope they don’t give up a first

Frazod 09-25-2018 08:30 PM

Same here, but if we can tie him up to long term deal, I say pull the trigger.

That is what Veach is betting on :)

Clearly he thinks Thomas can play at a high level for 3-4 more years.

Even if they give up a 1st—which is likely to be a pick in the high 20s at the very earliest—you’re left with two 2nds and a 3rd to use next year and you got Earl freaking Thomas.

Oh well.

pugsnotdrugs19 09-25-2018 08:32 PM

Like how often do guys picked from 26-32 end up being even that good? It’s rare...

I’d be fine betting on 4-5 years of Earl playing at a Pro Bowl level over whoever that pick might be.

The Franchise 09-25-2018 08:32 PM

This team is making the playoffs. Who gives a shit if that 1st round pick is in the low 20s to 30s.

Without thinking too hard the only guys I'd want taken recently is Hopkins or tj watt

Brandin Cooks has been traded for a 1 twice and he's not as good at his position as Thomas is, actually he's never been as good as Thomas his whole career.

CaliforniaChief 09-25-2018 08:35 PM

How sad was it not to have a first round pick last year???

Not very, when you're watching Patrick Mahomes destroy faces all over the league.

If we think Earl Thomas is still an elite safety and will be for another 2-3 years, you absolutely give up that pick and bring him in.

Take advantage of the time when you are basically paying Mahomes next to nothing by investing in other positions.
