We should have traded him months ago if that's the case.

Sure. You can guess however many games he wants to hold out. Or like DJ did in another thread, percentages of his decline. In his 3rd year do you think he'll be 50% or worse of his normal self? 80%?

When he's 32?

He probably won't be half the player he is now if you go on the past guys that played his spot.

Kevin Williams went from best DT in the league to rotational backup in 2 years.

You think if he doesn't play it tanks the season?

49ers just created 24 million in cap space. Embedding is not working

Knowing what we know now, absolutely.

It makes it harder when you have a guy producing like a rotational player that is paid to be a gamewrecker.

Lol, funny how 'past production' is irrelevant when discussing WRs, but somehow is critical when discussing CJ. But whatever, fine.

But I agree that you don't want to overpay, especially for a player that might be nearing the end of his prime years. For the record, I always felt he could and should get up to $26/$27 million/year for 3 years. Point being, I was never in favor of giving him (or any DL for that matter) $30 million+.

If we knew he was going to hold out like this, yeah probably. I doubt the FO knew this was going to happen months in advance and just did nothing about it.

It always matters...it's why there should be a limit on what you are willing to pay for a 3rd contract.

Players do dumb shit like this all the time. How much money did OBJ leave on the table by rejecting the Chiefs’ offer and taking less in Cincy?

Depends on who you ask, apparently.

tyecopeland 09-07-2023 12:00 PM

If he signs at halftime can he play the 2nd half?

He'll be 31 his last season of the projected contract.

And if you think he's going to off that hard, I don't know why extending him should have even been a discussion in the first place at almost any price point.

Red Dawg 09-07-2023 12:05 PM

Jones is now the only hold out in the league.

So how do you think the next 3 years will play out. How many sacks per season? Cause I see nothing that tells me that he's entering any sort of decline.

He has two seasons with double digit sacks. DTs tend to drop off after 30, so I would be more shocked if he sniffs double digit sacks again in his career.

Derrick Henry is 29, if he held out for a significant pay raise would you agree to it? If so, why? If not, why?
