There are going to be games where the defense will have to bail out the offense. That's just the way it is in this league. The guys playing it are just too good. You have 11 guys lining up on the other side trying just as hard to beat you, the more tape they get on Mahomes and the Chiefs O, the harder it's going to get, the more he's going to be tested, the more teams will send players blitzing after him etc. Because if it doesn't, then we're looking at a Dan Marino 1984 level once in a lifetime historic performance before our very own eyes. I only compare it to Marino and not Manning's '13 season because Marino did it during his 2nd year in the league, like Mahomes. Manning was in his 15th yr of his HoF career. It's just remarkable what Mahomes has done so far.

This offense will come back down to earth, even if it's only a little. When teams start getting more film on the Chiefs, they'll find tendencies and patterns and teams will start to sniff stuff out more, and/or find other ways to confuse Mahomes. It's remarkable what he's done so far, this is video game kind of shit stats he's putting up. But he doesn't know what he doesn't know. It's going to get bad at times, he's going to get banged up, he's going to have bad games, everyone does even the legends, we just haven't seen it yet lol.

This team needs to beat other teams in all phases of the game. Right now, yes they're one of the best 3rd down defenses and they tighten their sphincters a little when opposing teams are within 10, but they can't be counted on....ever.

Mahomes is off to a historic start, and has exceeded expectations by miles. Chiefs probably didn't see this coming either. If the Chiefs think their window is right now, then this is the type of move you make, esp when you have some draft capital to work with and your current Allpro safety is injured with an unknown return date. Should the stars align and Berry gets healthy again, with him teaming up w/ Thomas?....shit. The D may just turn the corner just in time for a playoff push late in the year.

This team/fanbase can not withstand another epic playoff collapse because of the failures of the defense. This signing makes this team immediately better for the next 2-3 yrs. A signing like this would tell the Chiefs players that FO is ****ing serious about a SB, it will motivate players to work hard. The offense smells blood in the water, they understand what is happening.

I understand Chiefs won't get better long term on D unless they start hitting on some of their top defensive picks, and trading top picks doesn't help. But the front office needs to make this move now. The window is now. This is the type of signing that you do to get you over a hump. This is the Johnny Cueto signing.

And FWIW, this would bring Veach out of the doghouse for me after his ****ing shitty ass draft w/ Speaks and O'Daniel.

I hope we wake up to an amazing present from Veachy Claus!!!!!

I can really see from some of these posts that people don't understand the value of a player on a cheap contract for years.

Or the minimal risk in signing a 3 time all-pro/6 time probowler, you know what you are getting....Mahomes is cheap, lets get the best players that are available while he is. It is what Veach already alluded to in going after Watkins.

There is one former all-pro playing on defense..and that's Houston. Berry if he ever suits up...

So yes we understand the value of cheap initial contracts...and also understand when a SB window has just opened.

If you want to watch Murray cover Gronk in the post-season...so KC can have a cheap 30th pick that probably wont be a pro bowler...well. As a fan, I dont give a shit...I want KC to go to the SB in my lifetime. This is their chance...

A late first rounder is not a sure thing, and being stuck with them for 4 years if they bust sucks ass too. If they are good, you either have to pay them big at the end or let them walk. By trading for and signing Earl you are guaranteed a proven, bona fide pro bowler for however long you hash out on paper. This, coupled with the fact that we hold two second round picks this year gives me the confidence that it would be a great move, even for a top round pick.

I imagine a fake "We just traded for Earl Thomas!" topic would initiate nuthooks on a colossal scale for the poor soul that did so.

Long time reader, don’t post much. Honest question to those who are against this trade. How long have you been a Skip Baylesss fan? I mean WTF??? As a long time Chiefs fan I’m begging for them to make this move. IT HAS TO HAPPEN - he could seriously be the missing piece to a super bowl run.
