That had to be exciting if you were in attendance. Three fumbles in three possessions, including one with 18 seconds left to snatch defeat from the jaws of absolute, positive, certain victory.

It was incredible. Seriously, Rhodes should be fired after that. What a dumbassROFL

It was absolutely dumbassery of Paul Rhodes to try to run the ball like that. It's what, 1:30 left in the 4th quarter, you're up by 3, and K-State has 2 time outs, they thought it was a great idea to run the ball. Hell, you take a knee, make K-State burn those time outs, and it would have been 4th down with what, probably 30 seconds left give or take, and punt it deep in their territory.

Nope. Fumble. Excellent field position for K-State. Bada-bada, bing, TD, K-State, tie game. Then another ISU fumble, bada-bada, bing, FG. Game.

The Iowa State Cyclones have fired coach Paul Rhoads, effective after the season, athletic director Jamie Pollard announced Sunday.

Rhoads, who was informed of the decision by Pollard on Sunday morning, will be on the sideline as the Cyclones finish the season Saturday at West Virginia.

The team will meet Sunday afternoon to address the change, and Rhoads and Pollard will address the media on Monday.

The Cyclones (3-8, 2-6 Big 12) blew a 35-14 halftime lead Saturday at Kansas State and lost 38-35.

Rhoads went 32-54 in seven seasons at Iowa State, guiding the Cyclones to bowl appearances in three of his first four seasons. Iowa State's win in the 2009 Insight Bowl marked its first bowl victory since 2004.

He posted notable wins against Nebraska (2009), TCU (2010) and No. 2 Oklahoma State (2011), which knocked the Cowboys out of the BCS championship race.

Rhoads' teams, however, have struggled the past three seasons, going just 7-26 overall and 4-23 in the Big 12. Iowa State shut out Texas 24-0 on Oct. 31 but squandered big leads the past two weeks in losses to Oklahoma State and Kansas State.

Former Cyclones offensive coordinator Mark Mangino, who was fired by Rhoads in October, took to Twitter after Saturday's loss to Kansas State:

Rhoads' fiery but approachable persona was also a big hit with Iowa State fans, as were his passionate postgame locker room talks.

Iowa State signed Rhoads to a 10-year, $20 million contract before the 2012 season. He is due a buyout of roughly $4.5 million under the terms of that deal.

Rhoads, an Iowa native, served as an Iowa State assistant from 1995 to '99 before becoming defensive coordinator at Pitt (2000-07) and Auburn (2008). He was something of an unknown commodity when he was hired by the Cyclones to replace Gene Chizik before the 2009 season.

After giving Mizzou a good, old fashioned 'Mike Dixon' last night, I'm being regaled by Wyatt (poorly) as the Cats are in a tight game with Roy's UNC 'keeds".

WilliamTheIrish 11-24-2015 10:37 PM

Cats hanging in with 6 to play.

WilliamTheIrish 11-24-2015 10:46 PM

Good game. To the wire!

I may have to learn the names on this roster.

Totally different mix this year. These guys play hard, smart and unselfish. Goes a long way to competing every night.

KevB 11-24-2015 11:02 PM

Game turned when a charge was called a block (ref underneath right next to play called charge, ref toward half court overruled him and called charge) and then they didn't call offensive goal tending. Four points handed to UNC when KState was making their run. Frustrating. Overall game was called pretty well, but those two swung things a bit.

I'll give Bruce credit, he risked turning over the roster, and he has a better team this year.

Riiiiight. It was all the players fault that pure as the driven snow Bruce recruited? He didn't fail at connecting with them? Bruce didn't fail at closing on any talent so he wouldn't have to rely on the one (decent) guy that he threw under the bus?

Oh, and in typical "unable to close" Bruceketball fashion, they lead by 8 at 4:12 and score three points to close and lose by 10.

But he mows his own lawn.

Dude, my post wasn't in defense of Bruce, good lord. The simple fact is that the team we had last year played stupid and didn't play hard all the time. It may very well have been 100% Bruce's fault, I wasn't there. I wanted the guy fired in the off-season. But watching last year's team vs. this year's team....for whatever reason, we play smarter and more unselfish.

Fun game for 36 mins. Then Bruce had to Bruce. We were taking an anvil to the ass and Bruce just sat there with his lizard tongue watching the game. Wake up, asshole! Your team needed some help with a timeout.

Oh well, love this team, still hate Brucey

Perfect KSU game:

1. KSU heartbreaking Choke/Loss to a Kansas-related coach - check

2. Game close enough for most Carhart/KSU fans to feel like champs and more importantly close enough for Currie and the clueless fan base to think they've gotta a heck of a coach in Brouche. - check

The only thing that didn't happen that would have made it better was if some 250 pound player had run over squeaky during his 38 minutes of standing on the court, trying desperately to make the game all about him.

Still too early in the year to throw his players under the bus though. That doesn't usually start until conference play and when his job starts looking like it might be in jeopardy.

Gotta say, his pathetic, insecure crybaby look is a perfect fit for the program/school though.

Congrats on a few more years of Weber!! Match made in heaven. ROFL
