One of the current owners has offered to let you co-GM his team to participate in the draft, and then the owner of the Memphis Malt Liquor has said that he intends to build his team but then will give them up. Would you be interested in co-building one team in the short term and then taking over Memphis in the long term?

I really like the Larry Johnson pick. I think he's got a good chance to be highly productive this year, and he was near the top of my list.

If he doesn't want to do it after the draft, then can I just finished the rest of his draft? I have a good list I have compiled of available players I want that haven't been drafted...

I will offer that if you just want to start an expansion team, you could. We'd have to figure out a way to get you more picks that didn't overly mess up others, and you'd obviously be a weaker team this year, but if you want to do that, you certainly can.

Hi all,

We have a request for an expansion team. In the long run I'd like to have expansion of the league to more teams, so we'll need a system for that, but in the short term we have one team requesting entry.

Since we're mid-draft I don't want to screw anyone over, but a la Lamar Hunt, Bud Adams, Ralph Wilson, and the other great AFL examples, I'm hoping that people will recognize that expansion is good for the league even if it may cause a few unexpected changes in the short term. However, if anyone vociferously disagrees, we'll backtrack on this short-term expansion and address expansion only when the draft is done.

I'd like to propose this as a system for the new team:

1. He doesn't get any players from existing teams, since those ships are already sailing.
2. Starting in the current round, he'll get two picks per round in the veteran draft through the end of the draft. Both will be randomly placed by a neutral third party.
3. In the remainder round, he'll get randomly placed in the order, and can then draw players from one additional remainder round pick at the end of the round.
4. In the coaching draft, he'll get randomly placed. (No extra picks.)
5. In the rookie draft he'll get randomly placed in the draft order, and then will get one additional pick at the end of each round.
6. The new team would enter the Midwest Division since it's already short one team.

EDIT: Another option proposed by an owner would be to have the new owner simply take 13 picks now and get caught up. If you prefer this, you can vote for Option B (this) or Option A (above).

I think this would be fair to everyone while giving him a fighting chance to catch up, and while he would be missing the first 12 rounds of players, he's okay with that.

If anyone protests strongly, we'll just back off and either let him expand in Year Two, or let him take over Mile High Mania's team when MHM retires, or possibly take over another team if the owner gets bitten by black mamba or something. Kyle DeLexus has also graciously offered that the new owner could co-GM with him until a team comes available. However, the new owner would prefer to start a team from scratch even if it's a bit weaker.

I think your idea and plan for expansion would be good, although we already are going to have at least one team in MHM's and possibly two, with Hootie, without owners. I think that before we do the expansion thing, it would be worth really asking Hootie if he wants to do this, or darosa could just take over drafting for that team now. I honestly can't imagine Hootie wants to do this since he's been on the board so much and hasn't made his picks for the last six or so rounds.
