I would think that if animals aren't immune, there would be a large number of dogs, ducks, pigs, etc. eating brains. However, they have yet to show any animals attacking anyone. This is interesting to me.

And if they're not becoming zombies and attacking people, why aren't they being normal animals and eating zombies?

Was that the zombie virus taking over the brain or what?

I read it as that or Rick envisioning what was going to happen to Shane. Rick knew Shane was bound for zombieland, but he was having a hard time capping his best friend in the head.

The virus only likes Human Brain matter.

Sounds good.

I really liked the directorial style of this last episode. The long pauses like right after Shane snapped the dude's neck and the camera just sat there by the tree and you could only listen.

And then at the end when the screen went black and I thought they were going to commercial and up pops some min-**** scary zombie imagery shit. Really good.

Could be cool if they just stuck with this set of characters and everyone just keeps dying and then the show ends. That would be classic.

Man….just got all caught up in this thread since last show. (this may be my favorite thread….)

If that's what the CDC guy told Rick, it doesn't make sense that he'd keep it a secret. Not telling the others would just be putting everyone in danger.

Someone could die when Rick's not there. Choking, an accident. Hershel's daughter almost killed herself. And if nobody's expecting the dead person to turn, they're screwed. Hershel has a heart attack and dies, Maggie's bawling and goes into the bathroom to wash her face. She comes out and he jumps off the bed and eats her. Thanks, Rick.

Very nice! I realized the same thing when he didn’t put that knife in Shanes skull.

I am a GREAT shot! I mean…I can really shoot. Not sure I coulda put one between his eyes at that distance in that situation though….and I’m not 10. But yeah...pretty cool.

EXACTLY! Biggest chunk of “dumbness” yet…in the entire show. I was like……COME ON!

My wife just about shit her pants! It was too funny!

I’m surprised there has been no discussion of the folks going apeshit on the zombie at the beginning of the show. You know when they kept switching back and forth from the funeral to zombie killing….at one point they all gather around a downed zombie and start stomping the crap out of it. I found it very disturbing. (and somewhat unrealistic….yeah I know I know…it’s a zombie show) It’s one thing to jam a pitchfork through it’s head to save bullets….I get that….and makes mucho sense. But to gang stomp one whey you only need to bash it’s head in is just weird. I couldn’t decide if I thought it was stupid more than I thought it was disturbing. It’s as if they are becoming so insensitive…..so dehumanized. Then later in the show when the “zombie flashes” started popping up I started wondering if the virus is working on them now…making them….mean…

Not exactly. In the comics, Sophia is still alive and well.

That brings up an interesting question. For those of you who have read the comics (I haven't), are you happy with the direction that the show has gone? Or are you disappointed in the ways the storyline has diverged?

Yeah, I think I'm happy with it. There are certain aspects of the original story that can be easily transmitted to TV, and others that aren't. I think they've done well with incorporating what they have from the story, and what has been added or changed has worked, for me at least. I think there are minimum requiremnets that NEED to be met as this story goes forward, and it appears they'll stick with that, and some that won't, such as Sophia. I don't think they'll ever make it to the prison, though. Logistically speaking for a TV show, it' seems it would be too hard to film there. Plus, they're there much longer than they were at the farm.

So yeah, I'm happy. A good comparison to what tv shows/movies can potentially do to ruin a story is Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I won't go complete supernerd into the details, but they absolutely butchered the story of the Surfer, and Galactus, for that matter. Hell, even in the last X-Men movie, they had Juggernaut as a mutant, and in the comics he was anything but. I don't see the Walking Dead making those kind of mistakes.

They explained this in the show already. The farm is surrounded by creeks and swamps which are all drying up now.

They didn't do a very good job creating a realistic geography. Rick and Shane walked forever into the woods and ended up within site and earshot of Hershel's farmhouse? Then the zombie herd was alerted by Carl's gunshot. Mhasnt there been about a 1000 gunshots before that one? It looked like there was about 500 zombies coming out of the woods. Why hadn't anyone seen them before? They have only been out in the woods about 1000 times prior to that.

I like the show, really like it at times, just want to see the writing improve some.

I took it as an utter release of pent up frustration and anger.I mean look Dale had just given his speech to the group and only Andrea spoke up and then bam he's gone.

I think Dale's words were weighing on them and before they could really rationalize it all he's looking up at them dying.I think the emotion of that entire evening just boiled over and the walkers in the field got the full brunt of it.

It's a zombie herd. It's part of the comics. Zombies mimic other zombies. One zombie moves off with purpose for some reason, then others join in, then more and more. This herd has been walking for who knows how long? It's probably not a group of "local" zombies who have been lurking around in the area forever just waiting for the right moment. We saw a smaller migratory herd that passed them all on the interstate scene at the opening of season 2. Now, it's somewhat unrealistic that this massive zombie herd just happened to run on a collision course with the farm, but that doesn't particularly bother me.

The whole Rick and Shane walking all night then having their showdown close to the homestead did bother me, though.
