These are usually tough games. Dead atmosphere for a weak opponent during semester break.

Yup. And KU has played several top 10 teams and other tough this year, not to mention the tough atmosphere last week. I think it must be really hard to get up for a game like this.

Meh, a lot of new players and coaches figuring out the best way to use then.
Self teams always play much better in February and March than December.

That isn't the issue. The starters coast for large portions of these games and flip the switch when they think they have to, which is a product of having too little depth.

I disagree. It's just a matter of starting flat. That much was obvious to anyone who watches basketball
