There have been a few cases of a KU player or parent taking money from an agent, and the outcome has always varied based on when it was discovered. A couple guys were discovered before their freshman year and they had to sit out about 10 games (DJax, Selby). Cliff was discovered toward the end of the year, and their whole family shut their mouth and he sat the rest of the season, with nothing vacated. Who knows what would have happened with Preston. But this is the first case it was discovered after a player left.
