Do people actually believe this? I mean, yeah, some pits are bred to fight but I don't believe they are genetically inclined for this behavior. The problem, in my view, is that pits are just one of the most powerful breeds and have the capability to kill another dog moreso than other breeds. But I've also seen plenty of those yipper dogs that are the root cause of the issue but the pit gets blamed for it. I have know pitts that I would not trust around other pets. I have also known pits that are good dogs around other pets.

I remember a buddy had a couple of German Shepherds that murdered the neighbor's cat. Well, I guess if your cat (or dog) is roaming off your property, that is the chance you take.

Another story I remember that happened I think near Manhattan, KS about 25 years ago. This couple had 3 rotweilers and they got free and killed a kid waiting on a bus. Again, powerful breeds like that are capable of killing other pets or even humans. But most (99%) of the time, it's the fault of the owner.

And sometimes, like what is being described in this story, it is partly the fault of the other dog owner. I think people with yippers allow bad behavior simply because they are small dogs. But that behavior should never be allowed. And this time, unfortunately for everyone, that caused the dog to get killed.

Sounds like the lunatic dog you speak of did not leave the property. It was his other dog that left the property. Look, I'm not letting Roy off the hook for his dog roaming around. But I don't see why anyone else in this thread thinks that yipper dog going into Roy's grandson's dog's territory is not at least partly at fault. You all don't know that dog would never leave its own property. And I'll bet it has done that before.

But Roy, how can we have a pile on if we don't ignore substantial facts of the situation. :shake:

For the record, I don't agree with Roy's stance on the sewer line. And I think they probably did the right thing in not fining the neighboy even though he was technically liable for his dog roaming. I think his dog getting killed was probably enough of a fine.

I really think a lot of posters here and in the general public, view people that own pitbulls as dipshits by default. It's indicative of poor decision making and that pretty much bleeds over to every other aspect of your life. A lot easier to pile on if you start with that base.
