Surprise L'Jarius Sneed Injury Now Threatens Chiefs Trade

A new report suggests Kansas City Chiefs CB L'Jarius Sneed is dealing with an injury that could complicate any offseason trade.

The trade saga involving the Kansas City Chiefs and star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed continues on with free agency right around the corner. We've heard no shortage of rumors involving Sneed's next potential destination after talks between him and KC broke down, but there's been no major movement yet.

Now it turns out, a health concern may be impacting this situation.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Chatter getting louder on Sneed knee injury<a href="https://t.co/ANioUJM9Zn">https://t.co/ANioUJM9Zn</a></p>&mdash; Tony Pauline (@TonyPauline) <a href="https://twitter.com/TonyPauline/status/1763996095703630292?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 2, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Tony Pauline of SportsKeeda reports "numerous sources" have informed him about a knee injury that plagued Sneed throughout the 2023 season. This intel revealed the ailment "prevented him from practicing for long stretches" during the past campaign, and is now a "red flag" prospective teams will need to investigate before any deal is made.

This development certainly could throw a wrench in Sneed finding a new home on a lucrative contract. Teams aren't going to give up legitimate draft assets, and/or pay Sneed handsomely on his next deal, if there's a legitimate concern about his health.

Of course, all it takes is medical clearance for any worries to go away. Sneed didn't seem to be particularly impacted by whatever injury he may have in 2023, too, as he set a personal best with 14 passes defended while adding two interceptions.

Sneed's performance since entering the league, and especially during the team's back-to-back Super Bowl wins, still gives him incredible value even if he's partially injured at the moment. The Chiefs could certainly use his resume (along with confirmation the injury isn't going to impact him long-term) to still receive a nice haul in return for the former fourth-rounder.

Sneed's injury status now requires close monitoring in addition to his contract situation with the start of free agency just over a week away.

What “development”? The knee injury and the lack of practice have been common knowledge for a long time.

Ah yes, another breaking story from the investigative journalists over at SportsKeeda...

To be fair: Common knowledge to everyone except Tony, Isaiah & their coworkers.

I feel like Detroit might be the best trade partner....they probably feel like they're close enough to a Super Bowl appearance to justify the compensation and contract and lord knows they need secondary help.

Some teams I'm thinking about:

Cards have 3 picks in the top 35 (#4,#27,#35)
Lions have #29 & #61
Commanders have 3 picks in the top 40 (#2,#36,#40)
Packers have #25,#41,#58
Dolphins have #21 & #55
Bears have #1, #9, & might move Fields to ATL for #43.

Worst case we get him signed to a reasonable deal?!?

Sweet

I don’t see any losing for Kansas City here unless they don’t get a 2

Best case, maybe the market does the negotiations for you, teams are scared by the knee and reluctant to offer top market money, and he comes back on $16m per year

I'm honestly hoping for a trade up package. I'd love to solve our LTOTF hole and figure out WR through a variety of other ways.

Yeah if the value is a 3 only, or teams aren't providing a number he likes, I'd be fine with simply running it back with him on the roster.

Fairly week CB draft should increase the proposed compensation, no?

He’s free to negotiate with other teams.

Ok, I have heard of several types of tags so I did not know which was which and what it meant. Thank you!
