I'm not hating on him -- he's doing exactly what we need him to do, and he's doing it well. But he was on the couch, this is not what he was built to do.

What he said.

Dude was having a hard time getting up after some runs

I think part of it is slowing down, but I don't think he's in good playing shape. As you said, he was on the couch. This is his accelerated playing shape. If he can avoid injury, I think he'll be better in a few weeks. I do think the Chiefs should split the carries more to give him a break.

notorious 10-28-2024 07:40 AM

He has 90 touches in 4 games.

74 in 3.

That's one hell of a load.

That's because of the load he's carrying. It's nowhere near the same offense that it was when he was here the first time. KC needs to rotate their RB's more. Where the **** is CEH? He might not be able to do much, but he sure could take some of the hits away from Hunt. If we could legitimately rotate Hunt, KC would get more out of him with less carries. I don't really know if the Chiefs have him in their long-term plans, b/c it looks like they're trying to use him up.

We only need him to carry that load until Pachecco comes back, he came off the couch so he should be capable of a full seasons worth of touches in a shorter period of time.

I’m guessing we keep giving him the rock, dumping to Perine, and punching with Steele until Pachecco comes back then when we’ve gotta full stable he splits time with Pachecco.

Pachecco
Hunt
Perine
Steele

Good question on CEH. They do need to figure something out to lighten the load for Hunt, or he is going to be toast. Sooner rather than later would be best. Right now, he's getting the Larry Johnson treatment.

Sassy Squatch 10-28-2024 08:44 AM

Perine has 11 attempts and a 3.5 YPC. He needs to start taking handoffs more.

PHOG 10-28-2024 08:59 AM

They need to give him a break. Several times yesterday he looked exhausted.

Mecca 10-28-2024 09:02 AM

They expect Pacheco back so they are riding Hunt because they trust him to not fumble the ball.

They also treat Perine like they either don't think he should have a lot of touches either or that he isn't a good runner, not sure which.

There are no guarantees that Pop will be effective when he comes back. The guy needed screws in his leg.

They need to figure something out before then.

BleedingRed 10-28-2024 09:35 AM

Ya'll are missing the point Kareem is on a redemption arc. Andy laid it out for him and said "You going to put in more work in the next 8 games then you have in last 8 years"

He said BET......... Kareem is here for us when we needed him. Feed that man

P.S. I told yall he was still a TD machine

Sassy Squatch 10-28-2024 09:49 AM

Wut? That's ****ing stupid. 20+ touches a game isn't sustainable for any RB, much less a dude that hasn't attempted over 200 rushes in a season since 2017.

At the clip he's being beaten up he's going to be a non factor when we actually need him.

philfree 10-28-2024 09:56 AM

Hunt is laying it on the line and leaving it all out on the field. He gets an extra day this week to heal up and he needs it. My hat is off to him.

Yeah, I was starting to legit feel bad for him toward the end of the game yesterday. Dude was completely gassed. I'd like to see him more in the ~15 touches range and lean on Steele a bit more. Hopefully he's learned his lesson on ball security at least.

That said, I pretty much always assume the coaches know far better than I do, so if they think they can ride Kareem until Pacheco comes back, so be it.

O.city 10-28-2024 10:02 AM

I wouldn't hate finding a RB here at the trade deadline, but I'm guessing they're just waiting for Pacheco.

Hell, get CEH out there.

Yeah, I think it's pretty unlikely they make any additional moves at RB. If Pacheco comes back healthy and CEH can actually play, that would leave us with 5 RBs on the team. Someone's gonna be on the outside looking in even without making an additional move.

I do hope they either shit or get off the pot with Clyde, though. There's no use in him being on the team if he's just gonna sit every week.

Sassy Squatch 10-28-2024 10:17 AM

I'm starting to wonder if they're just doing right by CEH and assuring he gets more seasons vested in the pension plan or something before he's out of football.

Pacheco and Hunt in the postseason each with 12 max energy carries. Im here for it! Those boys are gonna steamroll some defenses.

I though CEH would be back by now. He can at least carry the rock for small gains and give Hunt some rest. The coaches don't trust Steele for more than several carries per game and they're not using Perine much.

That's exactly what I thinking. 6 seasons guarantees your pension.

dlphg9 10-28-2024 01:18 PM

Lol Hunt had 6 games with over 20 carries his rookie season and 1 his second season. His entire time with Cleveland he never went over 20 carries. Gets signed by KC and has 21+ rushes in 3/4 games. It's pretty crazy.

TinyEvel 10-28-2024 03:27 PM

LJ broke the carries record with 26 per game average. This is too close. Agreed, he was gassed yesterday. Seemed to have more energy the first week he played for us, all that "rest" and then every week playing you get hurt bruised and muscles don't recover, you wear out.

Exactly.

Consistent.

Sassy Squatch 10-30-2024 07:04 AM

He was starting to get stuffed at the LOS a bit more often than you'd like to see against the Raiders.

O.city 10-30-2024 07:07 AM

They need an explosive back

Sassy Squatch 10-30-2024 07:09 AM

Just went through and checked, excluding goal to go situations, he ran for less than 2 yards 8 times against the Raiders

Mosbonian 10-30-2024 07:14 AM

Unfortunately I think that horse may have already left the barn. We've been watching Hunt getting beat to shit in real time. They need to drastically reduce his workload and let the poor guy get some rest, especially considering we're already past our bye this year.

I sometimes wonder if they are going to ride him hard until Pacheco gets back...I would like to see a healthy backfield of Pacheco, Hunt and Perine at the end of the year.

Wear out the defensive line all game in the playoffs.

Sassy Squatch 10-30-2024 07:35 AM

If they aren't going to get Perine more involved in the rushing game then CEH needs to buck up and tag in for a few games, at least until Pacheco is back.

O.city 10-30-2024 07:36 AM

Yeah, just make CEH active for sure.

Bearcat 10-30-2024 07:57 AM

He's the living embodiment of my hypothetical "how valuable is a guy that only ever gets you 1 yard, nothing more and nothing less, on every single carry" question.

I've always said that guy should be a 1st round pick because 2nd and 3 is a 1st down every time. Or 1st and goal from inside the 5 is a TD.

I poo poo the running game almost every chance I get but have always believed that short yardage running is HUGELY valuable. And man oh man does he do that well.

And credit is due to the OL as well. That interior is getting good push that allows him to take that little beat before hitting the seam. If that's not there for him, he gets swallowed up in the backfield when he tries to set up a block.

I think the offense is going to revert back to a passing attack.

Andy had no choice but to run it as much as we were and it was the right decision.

We have all seen the wide open WRs against the Raiders. Andy is going back to the offense he wants to run. This should give Kareem a bit of a break and lower his touches.

I was going to come in here to say Kareem will never survive until Pacheco gets back. It has dropped to just over 20 carries, but that’s still too much.

But then I noticed that Perine didn’t get any carries on Sunday? That he only has 13 carries on the season?

I mean, what are we doing? You mean to tell me that we can’t find 5-6 carries/GM for Perine? 3-4 for Steele?

Only two carries for Steele? If you want to pound the defense, this makes no sense. Especially when Kareem is gassed.

We're running like it's 1990. 29 carries on Sunday. Which I don't necessarily have a problem with, but we're also running Hunt like he's a 1990 alpha back, which he isn't at this point. I was looking forward to seeing hunt and Pacheco trading off when Isaiah comes back, but at this rate I'm not sure hunt won't be on IR by then.

Goalline and short yardage weapon. Something this team has sorely needed the last 3 seasons since we don't do QB sneaks and we run 3rd and 4th and short under shotgun which in itself leads to more potential of negative rushing attempts.

I was a bit worried in the last game though because he looked a little worn down. Noticeably slower. Pacheco coming back to lessen the load will help alot.

Why did he have to kick that one chick? Why did he lie to Clark?

What could've been.

That gives off some MJD vs Shawne Merriman vibes.

Now that’s a chip block!

Does Hunt play next week? I expect Steele to get the majority of the snaps, with Perine and Hunt there to give him some rest.

It's been a long season. Let the man rest until the games count.

On a side note: I think Kareem is going to be a big psychological motivator for the rest of the team for the 3 peet run after his history and way he's come back and played with such character and endurance.

Carson Steele is taking all those carries, Perine is probably the other for 3rd downs.

R Clark 12-28-2024 01:06 PM

Steele will do fine , don’t get the hate for him on here

He fumbled a couple times and missed some blocks, typical rookie stuff but on a championship team it doesn't fly.

Hell no. They can run Carson Steele every single play and I won't give a shit.

I’m not watching the game.

It’ll be pre-season bad.

The stuff that actually matters is hopefully Humphries and Nelson play a bunch and look good.
