Touchdown Kansas City.

This.

Although I couldn't tell if it was supposed to go to Maclin who was another 5 yards in front of Hill and came up short because of the hit (which really would have been a TD since he was behind the DBs), or Hill. Either way, if Alex has 1 more second to step into the throw it is 7.

We left points off the board, and still dominated.

QBs have to be responsible enough to know that they are going to get hit before the ball comes out. So just being hit doesn't mean a qb gets no blame for the play. I'm not sure I'm that mad at Smith considering what he was trying to do, but it did seem to me that he should have known he wasn't getting that ball out.

... and there's the rub. Tons of times, people are angry with Smith for pulling the ball down and eating the sack. This is the second INT (if remembering right) that resulted from him about to get lit up, and standing in to deliver at the last moment anyway.

It can be a damned if u do or don't situation. Just as a QB electing to not stand in there and run instead, only to get stuffed down. Sometimes, the split decision gets you a very positive run yard result. Other times, fingers point to the QB for bailing out instead of standing in for a throw.

Split second decisions.

He should have thrown it earlier and not held it that long

Oh there is a fine line between foolishly taking a sack and foolishly throwing the ball. I, as everyone, have wanted him to push it more. I certainly will take him trying that over him never doing so. I don't think it's unfair to ask Alex to push the ball but also recognize when it's time to take the sack. He is getting paid a hefty amount.

What I have asked of Alex this year is to TRY to push the ball, to trust the pocket, and to run the ball. He did all that last night. I'm not trying to crap on all he did. I know that's a split second thing. I do however think he can shoulder blame on that play.

Translation: No matter what Alex Smith does i'm going to bitch about it.

I really, really want to see the all-22 on that one.

If there's no defender deeper then Maclin then Smith ****ed up. That ball should have been thrown sooner.

If there is a defender deeper than Maclin then whatever. It probably isn't a smart choice but I like the aggression.

let's not get carried away

Sorenson is a guy who plays hard and will give it everything he's got. A much needed trait on an NFL team nowadays. But ... he is still a liability if you aren't careful what assignment you give him.

Sorenson fits in Sutton's system: bunch of safeties in a zone in the middle with corners on the outside in man-to-man.

Special teams and a multiple safety zone defense is where he belongs

False. But that's the problem. People see it as either a homer or a hater. Disagreements don't always have to be laid out in extremes in order to make clear cut lines of divide. I laid out many things I was happy about with Alex yesterday.

Just because I think Alex should shoulder some blame on that INT doesn't mean I am bitching. Hell I even said I was happy he was pushing the ball. He certainly had the right read.

It sure looked like a play that's a TD if Smith had time to hit Maclin in stride.
