Let me repeat this again, and maybe it will sink in: You don't give up what amounts to basically a mid first round pick for a stopgap QB. Alex ****ing Smith is the starting QB of the Kansas City Chiefs for the foreseeable future. No 1st round QB talent will be drafted for another 3-4 years.

Do you get it now, ****face?

what i dont get, is why you feel this need to get this hostile with me. You act like im saying ALEX SMITH IS THE REASON YOU DUMB BITCH. Alex Smith is your FUTURE, HES YOUR GOD AT QB. BOW DOWN, BUY YOUR 11 jersey right now.

I was under the assumption that with them NOT extending alex smith, that they were going to draft his future replacement. But then signing Chase for three years, is a little curious. I still dont get why you feel the need to go all internet bully lol. Its quite funny.

Strictly speaking of the hype, not the talent - KC is about the only place where Geno is considered worthy of the #1 pick. In KC he is Joe Montana 2.0.

I know you all have a ****ing hard on for Geno - but that isn't happening.

So, you get the best QB available (A. Smith) and the best backup available and the bitching from this place couldn't be louder because you aren't getting the most over-hyped QB this season - Geno Smith.

Year after year you bitch and complain, yet you are still here as a fan. Just don't care anymore and do something else. Or maybe being in permabitch mode makes you happy.

What did we want? I'll try to outline this in terms that get through your thick skull:

We wanted the Chiefs to make a concerted effort to find their OWN franchise quarterback. A guy who can win games in the playoffs and get the Chiefs back to the Super Bowl.

By trading an exorbitant price for Alex Smith and then handing a huge contract to Chase Daniel to back him, they have signalled not only that they aren't making that concerted effort this year, but also that they're not making it any time soon. While bringing in two guys who have a combined 0.5 percent chance of developing into a franchise guy.

Signing Chase Daniel by itself would make sense.

Trading for Alex Smith for a much lower price would make sense.

Either leaves open multiple options for acquiring a QB:

- drafting one at 1.1.
- drafting one 2.2
- trading back into the first with the 2.2 + to get a guy at a more realistic slot
- going with stop-gap options at stop-gap prices for 2013 and trying again in 2014

They don't even have the flexibility to try again next year as they should because they're giving up somewhere between a 2nd and a 4th to get Smith, severely limiting their ability to move up in a round or wait a round to get a QB in that draft.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ANDY REID AND JOHN DORSEY

They got older and decided job security was easier than building a champion. Look forward to many years of 8-8/9-7.

So, what do you mean?

Geno's worth taking at like 12 or 18 but not at 1.1?

How and when are the Chiefs going to draft Alex Smith's replacement?

The price they paid to get him severely limits that possibility unless they get really luck on a 3rd or later, 9th or lower rated QB in this draft or unless they get lucky with draft positioning next year.

The Chiefs will probably win 7-10 games with Alex Smith and draft somewhere in the teens or low 20s. And the only QBs "worth" a first-round pick will be gone before their pick. And their second will belong to San Francisco. So they'll be in the same goddamn boat they're in this year.

Ok -

1. If Daniel played for UCLA, would anyone here really give a flying **** about this signing?

2. Matt Moore > Chase Daniel

3. The dream for Geno/Barkley/Nassib/Glennon/Manuel/Scott is officially dead. Prepare for 6th/7th round QB. I'm hoping for Peter Lalich at this point. :(

Just a quick note here on the news that Chase Daniel is going to be backing up Alex Smith in Kansas City. I remembered that Daniel’s name had popped up in a QB screen with some other guys who had all started multiple games in the NFL, so I thought I would publish that information on the off-chance that it’s interesting.

When I was running QB comps for Geno Smith, I saw Daniel’s name in a group that was pretty impressive for a college QB similarity set. Trying to project QBs to the NFL is a difficult task whether you’re a scout or a spreadsheet jockey. The NFL hasn’t been very good at figuring out how to draft QBs, and even algorithmic projection systems like Football Outsiders’ Lewin Career Forecast only even tries with QBs chosen on the first three rounds of the draft. But that doesn’t mean that it can’t be interesting to look anyway. Also, half of the reason that I continue to look at college QBs is because I hope that I can eventually figure out a system for projecting QBs. Based on the velocity information that I’ve seen at Ourlads, I do think that if we had velocity information for every prospect we would be a lot closer to having a serviceable QB model. If you follow that link you’ll see that Daniel was recorded at 57 MPH, which is the upper end of the range.

In any case, here is Chase Daniel’s name with some guys that he was pretty similar to in terms of college numbers. The common threads that run through this group are as follows: high completion percentage, high number of career college starts, great TD/INT ratio both in their final year and throughout their careers, high number of yards/game in their final season. One area that you’ll note that Daniel is different from these guys is that he’s quite a bit smaller. Also, he doesn’t like hot tubs nearly as much as one guy on the list.

I don't see how signing Chase Daniel has any impact on our draft strategy. Maybe it's just me though.
