Veech is setting this up for the long run. 1 year deals. If they ball out- we can resign them again or get comp picks in the next draft.

Who wouldn't want to be o the same team as Mahomes?

That and he is going to need a ton of space to sign Mahomes. Starting to worry that if there is a shortened season and/or limited fans that it is going to cut into the projected increase due to the new CBA.

We should have a bounty of picks in the next draft. Berry's cap hit will be off the books. The cap will be going up. The Pandemic Panic of 2020 will be forgotten. Arrowhead will be rocking again. Chiefs will be back to back SB winners, which will attract more talent at yard sale prices. Life is good!

Hope that is the case. Probably means life is back to normal and the Pandemic did not have an affect on the revenue.

We can also cut Hitchens and Okafor next year if we so choose.

In 2021, while yes, a lot of deals are going to come off the books and we'll need to find players to replace them, we do have the luxury of having all of our draft picks in each round. We also picked up a 7th in 2021 from the Vikings for trading them Mark Fields. All of the players we've brought in are on little tiny shitter deals that won't impact the comp selection process. Meanwhile, we'll definitely get comp selections for Ragland and Fuller signing elsewhere. Possibly Wisniewski too? I could be wrong about that since he was a midseason pickup. So, without trading away any 2021 picks, we're guaranteed 10 selections, and possibly might get 11.

Yes, many of those are late round picks. Which is why you stick them at the bottom of your roster and keep the depth churning that way. They're less important than other areas, but they're still holes that need to be filled by players.

Guys like Ogbah and Fuller who can make millions (and in Fuller's case, tens of millions) more elsewhere

Fuller should yield at least a 4th and hopefully a 3rd, while Ogbah's probably somewhere between a 4th and a 5th.

The Comp Pick formula is weird so it's hard to project if Ragland will yield a 7th or if that will somehow be cancelled out by the re-signing of Sherman, Robinson and Breeland.

Uh, no.

The Chiefs don't even have enough money to sign their draft picks.

How in the world are they going to clear $38 million or so in cap space on a front loaded contract for Mahomes?

this is why it is silly to assume Chris Jones will be here.

Oh duh. I meant Ogbah. Don’t know why I said Ragland

No matter what happens with Jones, I think these signings point to an extremely coherent, albeit unknown, strategy by this front office.

They save $5M on Sammy Watkins deal... Immediately sign Breeland. that wasn't an accident or luck. They knew what Breeland's number was and got the right amount free.

If they sign Jones, I will feel 100% confident that it was the plan all along, they knew the number, they have a plan for the future.

If they trade Jones, I will feel 100% confident that it was the plan all along, they knew the compensation, they have a plan for the future.

Love this front office.

:thumb: Great post. Hitchens and Okafor should not be too hard to replace if they move on. This team looks loaded and ready to defend the title. ;)

Wait. So we signed Breeland on a 1yr prove-it deal last season. He proved it. And then we signed him again on another 1y slightly-more-expensive prove-it deal.

This is amazing. Meanwhile, Steven Nelson’s AAV is nearly twice as much. And Eric Murray is being paid more by the Texans.

This has to be an I-love-the-Chiefs discount, right? Breeland by the way is amazing with fans. We should all be psyched.

I think it's more of "Breeland couldn't pass physicals and has bounced around for the past few years. We can't examine him so we'll pass" type of deal, although I'm personally thrilled about his return.

We've almost certainly been getting some discounts this offseason. Not necessarily guys who would have commanded top dollar anyway, but still.

This is a disgusting statistic. I wanted Murray gone. I didn't care if he was hit by a truck, i wanted him out of here. And he gets a huge well undeserved contract the next year. Unreal.

kccrow 04-09-2020 05:16 PM

Surprised he didn't cost twice as much. Elated he's back though.
