No trial, that sucks. The fact that it's not even on local channels for our market is absolutely horse shit.

Which market are you in?

Sounds like what they have already done with MLB playoffs. We only get over the air stations at the lake and in 2015, the Royals were on TBS or some other cable channel. Getting those stations then would have meant getting a dish and paying a lot of money for just a weekend. We found a nice (okay, not very nice) smoky place to watch the game.

Amazon did it with Thursday night football and it seems to be doing just fine. People will grumble and complain to their friends and then they will sign up and have another $6 a month service which will creep up in price like all the others.

NCAA basketball tourney has been doing that for years with TBS, TNT, and TruTv, along with the normal CBS.

I just realized that this actually works out in my favor. I'll be in Puerto Vallarta that night (not Belize, and I'm not sending nudes of my wife), and a quick VPN connection will make this so I can stream the "real" version without an issue. If it was on the networks, I'd probably be looking at pirate streams (though I have no idea what, if any, access to games they have on TV in Mexico).

Yeah people in KC and Miami get it on their local channels.

I hope everyone who signs up for it deletes their account the moment it ends.

That ship sailed years ago dude.

This is the first time anyone has had to pay for a playoff game to watch it. People need to dick them over and they won't have to worry about it in the future. It is so simple on how to stop it but everyone will be a moron and pay to watch it.

Well you called out the grandparents dealing with the expected temperature in KC so just making sure you're aware. Maybe you just meant anywhere that it is zero degrees.

Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties in South Florida will get the game on the local NBC affiliate.

The ad blitzes they ran for the peacock game was very heavy on chiefs players. I think they planned to put the chiefs on this slot the entire time.

i bet theyre banking on ppl subbing for the game and forgetting to cancel the sub after lol

The other social justice issue here is that the NFL made a very specific decision that it would charge Chiefs fans for access to the game, while fans of other NFL teams will watch for free. That's blatant discrimination based on the color of our jersey.

The reality is that the future is a streaming world. You can figure it out now or figure it out later, but throwing a fit over something that costs about 10% of even the most modest cable subscription just seems silly.

Try being a fan of any sport other than football. For years I've had to chase NHL, MLB, and NBA games around on all sorts of cable networks (e.g., TNT, NBC Sports, A&T SportsNet, Root Sports, and dozens more over the years). It's infuriating as someone who doesn't want to pay $100+ per month for cable. The quicker that model dies, the happier I will be.

it will be a good experiment and one that I hope fails miserably. Unfortunately I think ratings will do well just because these 2 teams are must see TV and Taylor gives a bump but I don't think it will come nearly as close in potential. What id hope to see instead is that kc wins and buffalo/kc obliterate peacock ratings.

They'll get a lot of kc and Miami out of market fans. But is the average fan in Los Angeles or north Carolina gonna give a shit? None of my buddies who are nfl fans of other teams and have to stay home with their kids will be watching this. Even the younger swifties I know are gonna go out and party.

seamonster 01-08-2024 12:19 PM

I just won't watch the game. Not paying shysters at NBC and not jumping through hoops. Good chance their streaming service crashes anyway. NBC has no idea how to run a streaming live event at that scale. Even Amazon struggles with live streaming content.
