Is it just me, or does it seem like this team takes longer to flush than any in baseball? Look how long it took them to shitcan Franklin last year. If they'd kept him one more game there wouldn't have been a playoff run.

And HOLY SHIT, 15-0? At home? WTF :shake:

Glad I missed this one.

When Cardinal fans start booing a player they are through in STL. The fans rarely boo players during a slump. There may be a smattering of boo's at times but not the majority of fans.

I dont blame them for trying to save Greene. We all see the raw talent. We can all read the fantastic stats in AAA. But, for whatever reason, and it has to be mental, its just not clicking and its hurting the ball club. Maybe the clubhouse and majo players/leaders like him and pushing to keep giving him a chance.

It's way past time to just cut him.

TrebMaxx 08-09-2012 11:10 AM

Greene traded to Houston! Not sure who they traded him for.

Edit: For a player to be named later.

whoman69 08-09-2012 01:04 PM

Tyler Green just didn't get it. He was quoted as saying about the booing, "Then don't come to the game. Just cheer for your team. That's all I can say about that." Cardinal fans aren't booing you because you suck. If you play hard they will cheer you to no end. Its no like Rex Hudler put up great numbers here. If you aren't living up to your potential or playing hard, you will be booed. If you are booed by Cardinal fans, you deserve it. Its not like Philly where they regularly booed Mike Schmidt.

VAChief 08-09-2012 01:40 PM

There are a long line of Red Birds that stunk out loud but were huge fan favorites on effort alone. Bo Hart wouldnt have made the bigs with any other team

The Reds have been faltering a bit lately, and they need to take advantage of that.

Getting your ass handed to you in a 15-0 slaughter isn't the way to go about it.

losing 2 out of 3 at Philly doesnt help. But, we are still only 2.5 out of the wild card with a helluva lot of games left to play.

Siegrist had a nice start last night in Springfield (5 inning no hitter). A 6'4 lefty that can hit the mid 90's with his fastball should get him a longer look as a prospect. I had read earlier that Dennis Martinez (now coaching at Palm Beach) was really high on him, but all I had read on him earlier was he was a mid to high 80's guy with decent stuff coming out of college.

I saw Siegrist pitch in Frisco back in July. Dude was ridiculously inconsistent. One minute he's unhittable, the next he's giving up moonshots.

He's got the talent. We just need to see it consistently.

He's 23 now so hopefully he starts to feel a little urgency. If he sticks at AA the rest of the year it would provide a better view of his potential.

But Molina showed why he is the MVP on the team. Adding his new found hitting talent to managing the pitching staff and blocking everything in the dirt.

We as fans should give it up to Mo, what do you think Molina would get on the FA market now? It would have cost us more now. Props are due. We arn't the Royals but we still don't have tons of money to over pay for contracts.

We're still a game and a half behind the Braves. #1 wild card will get that game at home. MLB really expects the wild cards to fail. Having to burn your ace on a one game playoff is going to really limit the wild card. Better to just beat the Reds straight up.

Don't tell Frazod but Holliday was clutch today and money this weekend.

Last year at this point we were 10 games out. We had to have the Braves also collapse. Not neccessary true this year. We are only 6 games out and the last 3 games of the year are home against the Reds. That is a huge difference.

I'm just busting balls. The anger that I felt after the ball hit him in the gut and then he is out there casually eating sunflower seeds like its no big deal.:cuss: has cooled a not but its still there.

But he has since proven himself to be a consistent ball player. You can count on at least .300/25/100 out of him every year.

People just look at that contract being the biggest in club history and expect ridiculous things and ignore the facts of the market. Its the same $/yr average as Alfonso Soriano signed for in 2007 and its less than Jayson Werth signed for in the same year. He can drive you crazy sometimes but you have to take the good with the bad and there is a whole lot of good there. And lets not get started on the Crawford contract.

Cutler's reaction after getting knocked out of the Bears/Packers playoff game a couple of years ago reminded me of Holliday. He's got a knee injury bad enough to keep him out of the game, yet what does he do? He just stands on the sidelines. Stands. By himself. Not talking with the coaches or the backup QB trying to the win game. With that glazed Cutler look on his face. Like nothing important is going on around him and he doesn't have a care in the world.

Beltran's really hurting us.

He's flat out giving away 75% of the ABs he takes. Weak swings, shit contact, soft grounders to 2b on the first pitch (if he's lucky enough to make contact).

With a whopping 8 walks since the All-Star break, he's clearly taken that HR derby nomination to heart. He's just a wild hacker and needs to be dropped in the order until he wakes the !@#$ up. This offense can't carry a black hole in the middle right now.

There are several guys swinging at a lot of bad pitches. They made Jackson, a mediocre pitcher at best, look like Cy Young last night because they chased every curve ball in the dirt.

Yeah, but Beltran's been doing it for 8 weeks now.

The other guys will come around; slumps happen. Beltran, OTOH, is not in a slump. He's changed his approach and has turned into a dogshit player on account of it. That or he's more hurt than he's letting on.

In either event, I wouldn't expect him to come out of it.

playing like the last 3 games yeah, but we still got a ways to go. I 'll take waino in a winner take all against anyone. Once you get in the playoffs, you never know how it will turn out. Every year that you are successful someone unexpected steps up and pitches the game of their lives. Kelly and Garcia are very capable of giving us 7 strong innings. Loshe 7-8. Maybe Miller or rosenthal step it up?

If we get past the first round, we would have waino for two games again.

No, it's location and lack of movement on the fastball. At the first of the season he would miss location but it had late movement and the batter didnt center the ball. Now they are getting solid wood on the ball.

He needs to be on the DL.

Putting him 8th only moves the black hole down in the order and creates a situation where the pitcher is leading off more.

Matt Carpenter is a far better hitter than Beltran is right now and isn't much worse as an OFer. Beltran's crap - absolute, unadulterated, unfiltered crap. He's worthless in every way, shape and form. He can't run, he can't hit and he won't take a goddamn walk.

And of course Matheny's answer to this problem was to move him up in the order.

Get him off the !@#$ing field. We don't have time to hope he just comes out of an 8 week long funk at this point.
