We were chatting a bit about having the last change earlier, which was interesting in that it was Cirelli's shutdown line for TB against MacKinnon's line to start... and TB obviously won that battle in the first 30 seconds.

But yeah, MacKinnon hasn't forced his will yet.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 06:45 PM

Really doesn't seem like they only have a couple shots, at least in the first several minutes... had some decent looks early.

If you look close, the puck knocked the mask off. Still horrible luck, but it was a good goal.

Just glad to see him playing well. Could easily be 3-0 right now. So many stupid turnovers.

mlyonsd 06-22-2022 06:55 PM

Good kill.

DaFace 06-22-2022 07:01 PM

I think the Bolts watched some Blues vs. Avs game film.

JohnnyHammersticks 06-22-2022 07:02 PM

1st Star to Darcy Keumper that period. Should be 4-0. Worst 3 consecutive periods in a long long time. MacKinnon invisible - zero impact, normally solid-as-a-rock Toews playing shaky as hell, almost looks nervous. His weak pass led to the goal that kind of iced last game. Byram with a couple terrible giveaways that luckily didn't result in goals.

They need to flip some kind of switch or they're gonna have a tough time with this one. That was ugly, and they got dominated.

Yeah, that would have sucked... as it gets into the 2nd in a game like this, the next goal will be crazy important.

Or at least it seems after one period.... who the hell knows in this series.

Fish 06-22-2022 07:11 PM

Avs have gotten a ton of good looks so far. Just can't get a decent shot on goal...

JohnnyHammersticks 06-22-2022 07:14 PM

Kadri mentioned the ice being garbage. I've seen Toews mishandle more pucks in the last 2 periods than all season and playoffs prior. Just not a guy who normally ever makes a mistake, let alone multiple. Wonder if they're playing on slush.

Yeah, far more concerned with the 17 shots against, even though they obviously need to get Vasilevskiy some work.

20 shot attempts for the Avalanche.

Yeah, ice didn't seem great.

Kadri played 5 minutes in the first, definitely wasn't shying away from contact.... better than I expected.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 07:19 PM

A little life, almost doubled their total SOG... and a power play.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 07:21 PM

Don't know WTF Rantanen was doing on the PP... but yay!

mlyonsd 06-22-2022 07:22 PM

That PP was relentless.

JohnnyHammersticks 06-22-2022 07:24 PM

That's more like it! Crisp passing that entire PP.

The Avs PP is lethal.

Fish 06-22-2022 07:24 PM

Stressful, but satisfying PP...

Bearcat 06-22-2022 07:26 PM

Great stick lift by Byram... didn't see a hook, but maybe need a better replay angle.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 07:29 PM

Tampa's PP was as good as Colorado's all season, fortunate they don't have it going on right now.

BigRedChief 06-22-2022 07:29 PM

Are the Bolts the worst power play team to ever win a championship?

And WTF was that Kuemper... JFC.

Yeah, he's been given the benefit of the doubt with the injury and what not, but it's ****in' go time in a 1-1 game and you have to make that save.

We can say he's the reason it was only 1-0, but that's the game sometimes.

Seems like to me anyway, they sucked when they win the last two years in the playoffs but played better when not in a pp.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 07:56 PM

Apparently they thought it was a good idea to have a team meeting behind their own net with 5 seconds left in the period... JFC, guys.

Eh, ~25% is pretty damn good on the PP and that probably goes down a bit in the playoffs... so while 1/14 isn't good, good would only be ~3/14.

JohnnyHammersticks 06-22-2022 07:59 PM

Much better, except for that weak ass gift by Kuemper. How on earth do you give up a 50mph backhand to Hedman when you have a clear view? TB buttholes were starting to pucker before that happened. Need to get the next goal.

DaFace 06-22-2022 08:02 PM

Starting to worry about the fact that we seem completely unable to score 5v5. Gonna have to change that soon.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 08:48 PM

The joke is someone has to commit murder on the ice for the refs to call a penalty... but, would they call it in this game?

mlyonsd 06-22-2022 08:52 PM

The last 4 minutes was brutal for COL. They should feel good getting to OT.

Fish 06-22-2022 08:55 PM

Another damn stressful OT! I have a performance evaluation in the morning...

:BLVD:

Bearcat 06-22-2022 09:00 PM

I'll take OT after the first period and that shitty soft goal.

Fish 06-22-2022 09:13 PM

WhawhaWhat 06-22-2022 09:13 PM

Fish 06-22-2022 09:14 PM

I think our own player deflected what would have been a goal on that last shot...

Man, they look good though... only a couple TB butt-puckering 2nd chances in OT, but the Avalanche have had great help around the net.

Fish 06-22-2022 09:23 PM

Yeah, they are dominating this OT. Just can't finish...

neech 06-22-2022 09:25 PM

Why? Guy has been a dirty player his entire career. He's basically Matt Cooke or Tom Wilson. Just a lot more skilled.

Bearcat 06-22-2022 09:31 PM

Holy shit.

Three chances to win the Cup and 2 of 3 at home if needed.

Yeah, with Point and Cernak out their roster is getting depleted. Hard to see them winning another 2, let alone 3 games. I thought Colorado would win the series in 6. Tampa had to run out of gas sometime and they feel like the older team.

I thought it went wide, because I saw the puck get past Vasy and then just.... disappear. Then the reaction of everyone was so confusing, acting like Vasy had it.

Such a strange reaction to such a huge goal...... oh, celebrate!

If that's it, he technically has a point by the strictest interpretation of the rules, but not in a million years would they call that. There's always a cushion near the bench.

That's it, the Canadian media is talking about it on TV right now.

Technically it was too many men, but the guy on the bench had no real impact on the goal at all and Colorado was dominating the play for a long time before that. Not bothered by it at all.

Bearcat 06-23-2022 08:50 AM

I see his point... in the 2nd video at 5 seconds, Kadri leaves the bench thinking Nichushkin is coming off, but they both skate away and then MacKinnon goes to the bench.

Had Nichushkin come off, there's no issue at all, but of course being the eventual goal scorer coming off early, there's going to be drama.

He probably would have been livid had they called that against TB if the roles were reversed... would have been kind of silly considering they were letting both sides get away with assault though the 3rd period.

mlyonsd 06-23-2022 08:59 AM

That's gotta be one of the hardest rules to enforce.

DaFace 06-23-2022 08:59 AM

Sure, he's got a point. But without going back and watching it again, they decided not to call at least two boardings, a trip, and a slash in the third period alone (a couple on each side). It was pretty clear that they decided to let the game be decided on the ice.

And plus, line changes are always a judgement call at some level. There's a reason they're not reviewable.

Bearcat 06-23-2022 09:12 AM

I didn't go back and watch them, but in real time both boardings looked pretty blatant. The non-call that would have been an Avalanche PP happened first, so when Avalanche player boarded TB guy on the other end of the ice a couple minutes later, I was immediately yelling at my TV.... YOU DIDN'T CALL THE OTHER ONE!

Glad they accepting my logic.

Landeskog's play against Hedman was strange... it's like he crosschecked Hedman in the thigh, which along the near boards looked like a trip, but thought they basically got it right.

Again, to preface my comments, I don't know the minutia of hockey.

I understand fudging the distance by the players getting off and on the ice but..... its the finals, the player definitely came out early, a winning goal was scored and probably won the series. Something that decides a championship game should be reviewable.

They did let a lot of things go in that game.
