Reid said that McKinnon would be the emergency QB if Henne had gotten injured.

I agree but all these clips don't mean manure. These drills are going through the motions. There is no true game speed type practice drills here whatsoever to make an accurate analysis and that is for a reason. I truly believe they haven't tested Pat yet on any kind of game speed twisted torque type plays on the ankle(whether roll outs or drop backs). And they probably won't until Saturday if not Sunday(game day) to see where he is really at in this healing process.

An excellent Gorilla Duct Tape job, cortisone(if applicable) and AFC Championship adrenaline, along with a Fort Knox o-line type play is all Pat will need to avoid any pain.:thumb:

Ahhh, well that answers the question “who is gonna throw a TD pass on the trick play” this weekend. Toney was also a HS QB and I had my money on him.

All of the reporters that posted videos of Mahomes in practice leading up to such a huge game should have their press pass revoked by the Chiefs.

It’s GREAT to see, as Chiefs fans…but as competitor, no way the Chiefs aren’t pissed about all this video being posted 3 days before the AFCCG.

Nah... Mahomes will be hobbled somewhat and by letting that video out, the Bengals have to prepare for full on Mahomes just in case.

Chiefspants 01-26-2023 11:08 PM

Yeah it feels like saber rattling stuff. KC wouldn't have listed Patrick as a Full Participant if that wasn't the narrative they wanted the Bengals to read.

That's exactly what the Chiefs want.

Make them cautious on defense. Throw nothing but checkdowns for a quarter.

Then when they come up to stop the short stuff, unleash the dragon.

BossChief 01-27-2023 12:14 AM

I think Pacheco/McKinnon are going to get over 200 combined receiving/rushing yards and multiple scores. Especially if Hardman plays. He seems to play well against them.

The Chiefs would never show reporters something they don't want to get out. If they ever do, they tell them they're not allowed to talk about it. Nate Taylor always mentions stuff he's not allowed to talk about.

They were going to prepare for full on Mahomes regardless of videos or any reports. He could have not practiced this whole week and they would have still practiced like he was going to be 100% healthy.

You realize the chiefs control what aspects of practice the reporters can see and what of it they can record? They aren't sneaking their cameras out or anything.

Yeah it was on purpose. As far as I know or have heard, they were invited to the practice we have seen, later they kicked out the reporters.

LMAO

This is very true.

I remember watching an NFL challenge where the OLine were benching 225.

Roaf couldn't put it up near as much as the other guys. He was very weak in the arms, and maybe he was injured. His body mass, technique, and balance are what made him great.

If I'm going against Mahomes and that offensive line? I'm dropping 8, rushing 3 and putting a spy on him. You aren't going to get to him anyways...so you might as well not put any resources into it.

DJ's left nut 01-27-2023 12:45 PM

He's keeping his front knee 'soft' and bending off it. So he's not peg legging it.

If he were favoring that ankle too much (and make no mistake, he will favor it a little bit), I think you'd see him locking that front knee to take some strain and off his drive leg as his base would have his weight shifted further forward.

But if he's keeping that front knee bent, I think that's a good sign that the weight distribution is pretty even and you'll see relatively 'ordinary' (for him) mechanics. Obviously that doesn't speak to the possibility of aggravating it, but I think he'll enter that game sound enough to do anything we'd need him to do.

The ankle is going to be out of sight, out of mind for me unless/until he proves otherwise. There's nothing more to see here, IMO.

It seems like we can conclude three things pretty definitively:

1) He's likely not going to be 100% in the sense that he probably won't be spinning around and escaping pressure while making 5 guys miss on an epic run to the end zone (see the Titans game from 2020).

2) He should be able to move around in the pocket, make standard handoffs, and make throws provided the OL can give him a little time.

3) He's Patrick Mahomes, and it's generally a bad idea to underestimate him.

Eleazar 01-27-2023 01:24 PM

Looks like his recovery is a ahead of what you'd expect.

Is it likely he's still going to be less than 100%? Yes.

What does that mean for our chances?

It's going to be pretty easy for him to throw fade routes. I know we don't like to do that very often but it might be what the doctor ordered especially with Fortson healthy.

I'm kind of worried about when he progresses to the 4th read and has to find a guy on the sideline because it would force him to have to shift laterally on that ankle.

Bumping thread people that don't have time to CP during the day because had to go past 3 lil Joe from Bonanza fat Jon threads to near bottom of page. Great summary here!

Yep, shows nothing. I want to see a hard 5 or 7 step drop checking all options only to see that all receivers are covered thus he must step up or roll out. Show me a hard step up or a hard roll out.

You'll just have to wait till game time. Besides that Mahomes doesn't have to show you anything.

People who bump this thread out of nowhere should be banned from the thread and/or hanged by the neck until death.

I’ll send you the medical bills from the heart attack you just gave me KCChiefsfan88.

Yeah who would dare bump an "Mahomes injury update thread" with a Mahomes injury update.
