As for the actual game, KU played pretty terribly. It didn't help that the constant stoppages hurt their home advantage, but there was no defensive intensity at all, they didn't even force many bad shots from ULM, and they didn't get out running on the fast break more than a few times (which is partially a product of their defense being so poor). It turns out life is tougher when you don't have a 7 footer with great timing bailing you out on every possession. The team's offense should look better when Tharpe returns, but defense is going to be the real problem for this team over the next few months.

Wiggins is a special talent with the ball in his hands, but he's got to be more assertive on the court (on both ends) and Self has to find a way to better utilize his abilities as the season goes on. Embiid showed his flashes of talent in the few minutes he played, but the intensity also wasn't there with him tonight.

As for the returning guys, it was good to see that Ellis and White were solid. They will be important players on this team if they keep contributing like that.

This is going to be hard for some people to grasp but these 1 and done guys (esp someone that's supposed to go 1 overall in the next NBAdraft) aren't going to risk their future on 1 year of college. I hate the 1 and done rule, I think college players shouldn't be able to jump to the NBA until after their Jr season. We won't see a whole lot of intensity from Wiggins this season. That's just my opinion. He won't be a Josh Selby kind of disappointment, but I think he'll be a Xavier Henry type player...maybe a little better. We'll see some brilliance for the guy...a few games here n there where he'll drop 30, and then some others he'll disappear and score 4-6pts.

Should have gave Frank his money. They've made their own bed with that assclown Weber and now they have to lie in it.

I think it was more than that. Frank and the AD did not see eye to eye, IIRC.

Should have fired the AD instead, then.

Don't know what this generalization is based on. Did Anthony Davis not play with intensity when he dominated the NCAA in a way the sport hadn't seen in over a decade and singlehandedly carried his team to a national title?

I have no idea what to expect at this point with him. But I'm definitely not about to make any sort of definitive predictions about somebody who is clearly as talented as him (and he's way above Henry in that regard). He's just got to find and harness the competitive fire within him. For some of these super talented guys, that never comes in college. For others, it does. All we can do is wait and see.

Ouch for KSU.

As hilarious as it is to see them bomb out under Weber (I didn't think it would be quite this fast), KU was better when KSU was respectable. They really pushed us a few of those years, and the more we have to fight to win, the better.

KSU needs to move on from Weber yesterday.

Buehler445 11-09-2013 12:04 AM

As for the game, couldn't they just implement this type of officiating in the B1G? That's where most of the worst offenders are (exempting KSU). I agree with KCC. They've boned themselves. Hopefully they'll do this for a couple games and then lighten it up when the games matter. It seems like I remember them doing it for some other rule.

Yeah, the team defense is shit. Pure shit. And it didn't seem like we ever got in a rhythm offensively to offset it. I don't know what Duke is bringing, but unless they're all n00bs like we are, they beat us by 20.

Man, there is a lot to like about this team, but they're miles away from beating anybody that matters.

Also, the Morris twins are having a really good start to the season.

'kieff with 28 and 10 tonight.

Cannot believe how good a pro he's becoming. I never saw that one coming.

I just hope we get the max out of these guys offensively and defensively of course. We are loaded with fire power, I hope they are used as such. No Connor Teahans on this team thankfully. It's early but I don't want a Ferrari with a 4 cylinder engine under the hood, both offensively and defensively. Get the most out of this roster. In January this should be a dangerous team.

Chiefs Pantalones 11-09-2013 12:30 AM

I hope we use the shit out of Wiggins, Jamaal Charles style, for his only year he's here. He's too talented.

Should be interesting to see KU with their starting point guard Tuesday.

Get ready for a war.

Tears in Titletown tonight.

Why would they do that? He's a great AD. The fact that their athletic program is as well rounded as it is in a place like Manhattan is incredible. He runs circles around Zenger. If they want to fire him I'd love for him to come to KU.

That AD destroyed any semblance of a successful basketball program they had because of a feud with the coach. Sounds like a real great one, indeed.

He hired a coach that won a Big 12 title in basketball for the first time ever in his first season and one that won a title for their team for the first time since 1977. Regardless of what happens this year, that doesn't change that. KSU's basketball program is not going to go to shambles because of one bad year. They are competitive in every sport they play and they're making money doing it. He's doing a hell of a job.

He took Illinois to the final 4 his first year and was eventually fired because he sucked.
