This. Who cares if people are suddenly paying attention? Its exciting, isn’t it? The bars are full of people watching the games and going crazy, right? If they like what they see, they may become one of the converted, and 4 or 8 years be bitching like a senile old man about all the NEW bandwagon fans.

Suddenly liking something does not make you a bandwagon fan. Suddenly disliking it because its not as good anymore makes you a bandwagon fan.

And with the response casual soccer fan get from “die-hard” soccer fan, its no wonder no one latches onto the sport.

Unfortunately, not much is shown on there either. If you want to pay for a special package, you can get Fox Soccer Channel, which shows some EPL and Serie A games. GolTV and ESPN occasionally have La Liga and Bundesliga.

I usually end up watching my EPL games on Sopcast and TVU (streaming programs) and I watch La Liga on ESPN3 (when it shows Real Madrid) or Sopcast or TVU.

Normal cable coverage of soccer sucks the balls.

i try and keep up on it. I read alot about it on wsn since they have a year round thread. Other than that i catch snips here and there.

I am a member of a message board called BigSoccer (www.bigsoccer.com) and there is a forum called Yanks Abroad where we collectively cream our pants when an American player goes to Europe to play. And, since there aren't a whole lot of them, we pretty much dig up and learn every single little detail about thier lives and careers. I don't know if anyone else here is a member of that board, but there are people that know a LOT about these guys.

BTW I'm not defending the bandwagoners...I'm just letting you know that some people really are excited about this.

The soccer snobbery in this thread is getting a little stifling. How in the **** did Italy lose? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ebolapox 06-24-2010 10:53 AM

yeah, that's one reason I'm not a huge soccer fan outside of the world cup: a LOT of soccer snobs out there.

There is a very fine line between being passionate, and being a one who sucks the penis. I don't mean any offense to my soccer friends in here, I'm just sayin'.

I don't think there is a lot of soccer snobbery. I think for some reason sofa king always wants to pose questions to make people defend soccer for some reason...after a while it gets old. It is like...hey...like it or dont like it that is fine.

"Where the hell are all these soccer fans the rest of the year?"

"I hate it when they flop...that is why I don't watch."

Blah blah blah, I mean...what do you want us to do? You like it or or don't.

I know what it's like. You "discover" a band that few other people know about. You buy all their stuff, talk them up to friends and devour every piece of info you can on them. You feel like part of an exclusive club, an insider, one who has unique insight into something special and rewarding.

Then they suddenly break out big and EVERYONE knows about them and acts like they're the band's biggest fan. And you're left sitting there in a crowd, thinking, "But I followed these guys YEARS ago ..."

"One day Tito Puente's gonna be dead, and you're gonna say, 'Oh, I've been listening to him for years, and I think he's fabulous.' "

the Talking Can 06-24-2010 11:16 AM

no one cares if you don't like/get/understand/love soccer....

shove your ego up your ass...root for the team, enjoy the games, and quit ruining this thread with your boring and cliched opinions...

OnTheWarpath15 06-24-2010 11:18 AM

I'm not a fan of the game, but it's a national pride thing to me, so I'll watch and root for the Red, White and Blue - just like the olympics.

I'm confused as to why people have a problem with that.

This.

that, and for me, it just doesn't break the pantheon of the sports I divert most of my time to. the world cup comes in a perfect time for sports every four years--the doldrums of summer for baseball, football is in mini-camp mode, tennis is boring by and large, basketball sucks (nba, that is: I'm a bulls fan), etc.

There are people on this board that like soccer year around but they constantly get berated for it. There is a really active FIFA thread and every now and then Wizards threads pop up. Hell, I understand why some don't get into them but I have a blast with friends at Wizards games. I have been to every home game this year.
