I'm thinking Pinkel is using his illness as a scapegoat to get the hell out of a bad situation at Mizzou. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, in fact I don't blame him. I only say this because of what has occurred over the past week at the University and with his football players' protests leading to a presidents removal. The ship is sinking and if there was a time to GTFO, now's that time and he can use the illness card. Why else would you release the worst possible news your athletic fanbase wants to hear, while the school itself has this black eye painted over their univ? Talk about kicking the school while it's down. This can't just be a coincidence that this is all happening at the same time. I dont think Pinkel wants to deal w/ that crap. Who can blame the guy?

How many millions will it take to find a good coach (one who has other job options) to come to a school where his team may go on strike if someone spots a turd that vaguely looks like George Wallace in a campus toilet?

So Pinkel has what Eric Berry had?

Berry had Hodgkin's lymphoma, while Pinkel has non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. From what I understand, non-Hodgkin's is a much more aggresive form of lymphoma and is a lot less-easily treated.

Damn. Anyone accuse him of 'quiting' in here?

You're correct that it is a more aggressive form of cancer. However, it's easier to treat with a higher success rate.

Best news I've heard in a long time (aside from the cancer of course) Thanks for making Mizzou not as shitty as it used to be. It's crazy how many people are acting like Pinkel was a top tier coach though.

Tom Herman of Houston is my no 1 target. New coach will have HC experience, and Herman is a little light there, but he's a future star, imo.

Justin Fuente is also a strong candidate.

Kirby Smart can **** off, though. Just not impressed by him.

Matt Campbell of toledo will also be a contender. And if they do consider an assistant, Barry Odom is the only one I could see them going to die to his ties to Mizzou.

Just read that Mizzou will be wearing all white uniforms Saturday. Terrible timing for that choice.

Herman & Fuente are the kinds of hires I'd typically get excited about. Herman is interesting, too, because Mack Rhoades hired him at Houston. *sits in chair petting cat like Dr. Claw*

Urban Meyer hand-picked Herman because he thought he was a brilliant offensive mind. Pretty high praise.

He's only got one year as a head coach, but he has recruiting ties in Texas, Florida and Ohio, and was a key recruiter for OSU in St. Louis as well.

It would be a home run hire. I think he's a star, and I think Mizzou would only be able to hang on to him until Urban Meyer retires... but I would like his chances to leave a better program than he found.

He's also good enough to hang on to the talent in the 15 and 14 classes and build quickly around that, if given a chance.
