As he should be. They asked him if coverage was more similar to Houston or Chargers. He said Houston. I don’t get why he didn’t apply a strategy similar to Houston game and use a lot of checkdown throws. He seemed to be forcing it downfield in this game.

Doubt it. This team has a tendency to play down to the competition. Hence the struggle vs the Chargers, followed by a game in which they made Baltimore look like the worst team in the league.

You could tell they were going through the motions.

That's a bad habit that we don't want to develope. The Steelers had that same problem and it ****ed them in a lot of games.

Agreed. Even when he had guys open short, he flat out missed them.
Part of that was due to being harassed by the Patriots D-line on numerous occasions.
But , in general, he just had a poor game.

Fox News has story accusing Mahomes of flopping. Unreal. We are the new Patriots.

I bet we beat Buffalo honestly, but still lose the division to them.

They're an overall better team atm, but I have a gut feeling. If we're underdogs, I don't blame you for taking that bet.

That is pretty ridiculous.

Sassy Squatch 10-06-2020 05:41 AM

Haha, Mahomes did oversell it a bit.

I can see where a Pats fan would view that way.

But I would like to think that the Chiefs would have stepped up to another level if Cam was playing.

Chiefs lead wire to wire, and while the game was close for awhile, Andy and EB never really needed to dig too deep into their bag of magic tricks. They called a couple of plays near the goal line, but other than that it was a bit vanilla tonight.

Mahomes would not have let Cam out play him tonight.

Exactly.

Yep.

Maybe because it was the Patriots? It looked a bit like he was forcing it.

My theory right now on ways you can effectively defend the Chiefs are this.

1) Be the Patriots, coached by Bill Belichick with an elite secondary, dropping 8 into coverage and forcing Mahomes to throw in tight windows often.

2) 49ers/Chargers cover 3/6 scheme with an elite front 4 that can get home on their own often.

But even still, neither of these two defensive strategies have ever worked for a full 4 quarters. We just have to be better about taking what they give underneath early on to set everything else up...

I'm convinced of this. That doesn't mean he is never going to lose a game, just that we are always going to be in the game, have a chance to win.

Had a conversation with a San Fran fan a couple of weeks ago, He was still talking that if Grapo had hit Sanders on that bomb they would have won. 1:33 left in the game. 2 time outs left. Field goal wins it. You don't think Mahomes would have led the team down and won the game? He finally admitted probably.

I would too just for the sake of sleeping a little better at night.

I still contend that Fenton ended up in decent position on that play and might have gotten a hand on it even if it was a decent throw.

Yep. I think Pat was trying too hard to make a statement on the Patriots defense instead of just taking it more cautious.

They need to involve CEH in the passing game more. He really looked good on the edges last night but they didn't use it a lot, running or passing.

I have to wonder if they weren't just trying to get out of there with a win and kind of shut things down.
