I really don't care who they take. I'm just not on board with trading up.

Well you might not want to watch the draft bud bc that’s Veach’s style.

Worthy, Rice, Kingsley, McDuffie

Veach has a list of guys and he goes after them

Look at the general tenor of this thread. I'm not talking about you specifically. I'm talking about the overall sense of fear that has infected this place over the past year or so.

It's not hard to see why. We all watched the games. I do fear another season of Mahomes not trusting his line if LT is not fixed. Why wouldn't I be very concerned?

Only if they can find someone willing to play ball.

Why is this a narrative? We've traded for a higher pick or player using a first or second in every draft except 2020.

Sassy Squatch 04-03-2025 10:40 AM

2018 traded up for Speaks
2019 traded for Clark
2021 traded for OBJ
2022 traded up for McDuffie
2023 traded up for Rice
2024 traded up for Worthy

Sassy Squatch 04-03-2025 10:41 AM

If you're expecting Veach to NOT be aggressive with the capital we have this year you quite frankly just haven't been paying attention to his modus operandi.

Duncan, you’re normally right on facts but missed one here. Simmons started 19 games at LT for Ohio state. I agree that if he doesn’t check out medically, we need to pass on him but I believe Simmons would have gone back to college if he didn’t feel the medical would be good for a long term 100% recovery. Supposedly Simmons is ahead of schedule and will be ready by training camp.

https://www.patspulpit.com/2025/4/1/...couting-report

The following year, he started all 13 games for the team at right tackle. However, he decided to enter the transfer portal after the season and moved to Ohio State. Immediately installed as the Buckeyes’ starting left tackle, he went on to start all 19 games over the next one-and-a-half seasons. The second of those saw him earn third-team All-Big Ten honors despite missing half the season after tearing his patellar tendon in October.

With one more year of eligibility left, Simmons decided not to return to school. He was invited to the Scouting Combine but was unable to do any drills as part of his recovery.

Draft profile
Expected round: 1-2 | Consensus big board: No. 25 | Patriots meeting: Combine

Strengths: Before his season-ending knee injury against Oregon last year, Simmons was on a definitive first-round trajectory. His play had taken a massive leap forward in 2024, and he began combining his immense athletic talent with improved technique.

In general, Simmons is a strong and powerful player but still moves smoothly as a run blocker. He identifies his targets quickly and decisively, and due to his speed is an asset against smaller second- and third-level defenders. He is quick out of his stance and has the agility to change direction while still maintaining balance and upper body power, and has shown the ability to execute reach, down and drive blocks at a consistent level.

To be fair Veach got rat ****ed in 2023. Nobody wanted to trade with him so he stayed put and took Felix

That just further proves my point though. Veach is almost always looking to go up, not down.

Well, it is a narrative. I've actually heard people say "Don't trade with the Chiefs." We heard it last draft when Buffalo let us trade up. Furthermore, at a minimum, there will be some teams that will refuse to trade with us because they have no interest in trading down regardless of who is offering.

Sassy Squatch 04-03-2025 10:57 AM

Who cares what fans think. We traded with Baltimore in 2021 and Buffalo in 2024. Our fiercest rivals in the AFC. It's just nonsensical bullshit that teams absolutely refuse to do business with us.

And yet coming off B2B titles his chief rival was willing to trade with him in 2023?

I simply don't believe that narrative -- teams will make deals with you if they think it makes their team better. If Veach wasn't able to get a deal to move up done it was because he didn't want to move up that badly.

He played a 'woe is us' card that I simply don't think was viable. Teams will trade with us. Teams DO trade with us - often. That day nobody was willing to make a trade but it wasn't because we were the Chiefs -- it was because we weren't willing to offer enough to move a team off a guy they really wanted at a spot they were picking.

Shit happens. That's not getting rat-****ed, that's just reality.

And he still had much better players than FAU on the board when he picked.

No excuses there.

Sassy Squatch 04-03-2025 11:03 AM

I'm curious who he had in mind once the WRs were gone. IIRC he was trying to trade with Dallas at 26 and there's just absolutely **** all in that pocket of players that would've been worth the time

kcbubb 04-03-2025 11:09 AM

I agree that this is a risk reward type of analysis and it’s possible that we pass on some talented prospects to take Simmons especially if we could trade up to the mid 20s but I feel like some here aren’t appreciating this guys talent. Just watch Simmons move. This type of movement with that strength and size does not come along in the back half of the first. Just watch 71. In order to accurately evaluate the risk/reward, you need to see how high his ceiling is. Eric Fisher couldn’t move like this. Warning, if oline play gives you hard on, get ready. Feet, punch, hand usage, agility, strength and power; Simmons has it all.
