You don't read good, do ya?

We knew Stafford could do it. He had a howitzer for an arm and he was a 3 year starter in a pro system. Guys like that don't have anything to prove.

Was I disappointed by him not throwing? Yup. Was it a red flag? No, because there were no question marks there.

The best thing Sanchez did at the combine last year, despite having a supposedly "horrible" day throwing (as insinuated by a plethora of dumbasses) was show that he wasn't afraid to mix it up, go out there, and compete.

Ultimately, you don't need confirmation that Reggie Bush or CJ Spiller is fast. You don't need to see Suh bench to see he's strong.

But if someone has legitimate concerns, those should be confronted and addressed. Dodging them is bullshit, plain and simple.

Thanks. Must have missed the post that you mentioned Stafford. Sorry to inconvenience you by asking something that had been addressed. Thanks for your valuable time.

So you can add stupid on top of scared.

The correct answer is this:

Go in and do everything. If you don't do something well, stress that your strengths during interviews. Kill the interviews.

If you don't run well, then you tell the coaches and GMs you'll do whatever is necessary to make yourself quicker, whether it's losing 10 lbs. or spending more time in the film room to help you anticipate things better.

If you have a problem with the offense, let them know you are going to bust your ass until you can do a 3, 5, or 7 step drop in the middle of a Tokyo firebombing, and throw a football to a target without hitting a flame.

Don't dodge your weaknesses. Confront and conquer them.

It's that simple.

Yeah, I think the interviews are more important in finding out about a player's competitiveness than his decision to participate in a drill or not.

You can skip a drill, and still say all of the right things in interviews and be fine. That buys you time to drop weight, get faster, change your throwing motion, work on your footwork, get stronger, etc. before your pro day.

How about Stafon Johnson? We have all these guys sitting out because oh my hamstring is tweaked yadda yadda..

Stafon Johnson nearly died and he works out completely, at least he didn't puss out.

I weighed less than 100 lbs in the 9th grade.

115 when I joined the Navy.

Also, Everson Griffen threw up a 4.6

Mecca 03-01-2010 09:07 PM

Jason Pierre Paul with a 4.64 and doesn't remotely look the 270 that he carries, this guy could carry 300lbs and look thin.

From CNNSI:

Navorro Bowman/OLB/Penn State: The junior was incredibly fluid and quick on Monday. He ran solid 40 times of 4.7 but seemed much faster in drills. When asked to display his ball skills in coverage, Bowman looked more like a defensive back than linebacker.

Mecca 03-01-2010 09:15 PM

Per Todd McShay on ESPN Carlos Dunlap weighed 277, ran a 4.71 & did all the physical things well but tanked his interviews. Apparently the scouts thought there was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm for the game, a real deal breaker for consideration of an impact rookie DE who would warrant 1st rd. $.

This could drop him out of the 1st rd, maybe lower as this like most recent drafts is passrusher-intensive, & Jason Pierre-Paul blew all other contenders away with his superlative Combine performance & raised the bar of scouts' expectations. JPP is the top-ranked DE in PFW's draft magazine published before the Combine & so far he has justified that top ranking.

Yeah, it took a lot of guts for him to bench again.

He's a late round pick at best though and I assume you know that...different than guys who don't run to protect their stock.

He didn't have anything to lose.

Blick 03-01-2010 10:48 PM

Dunlap is a guy who you can truly accuse of lacking competitiveness...and that showed up in his interviews and through the attitude that he carries because there were already questions about his dedication to the game.

The thing that makes me cautious about Benn is he does not have very good hands. We already get a bunch of drops from Bowe.

Exciting day today, IMO. We get to see Taylor Mays, Eric Berry, Joe Haden, Chad Jones, Major Wright, Stuckey, Patrick Robinson, Rolle, Earl Thomas, Nate Allen, Myron Lewis, Larry Asante, among others.

Brandon Ghee's 1st run is a 4.37
