OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- A teacher who is currently the subject of a misconduct investigation at Shawnee Mission West High School was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Miami County on Monday.

The teacher was placed on leave after claims that she and a student had an inappropriate relationship. The case has been referred to the Overland Park Police Department and no charges have been announced.

At this point in the investigation, KMBC 9 News has chosen not to release the name of the teacher.

Deputies in Miami County said a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox was heading east on 247th Street when it went off the road and off a cliff ledge, and crashed into the embankment of a creek. The driver of the SUV was flown to a hospital for treatment, but there was no immediate word on the extent of her injuries.

Overland Park police said they participated in a search of a home in Lenexa on Monday as part of the investigation, but they did not say whether anything was found. The home is the same address where the SUV involved in Monday's crash is registered.
