I would be amazed if Welker could even come close to what he does now in that era.

You're underrating Welker's smarts, toughness and consistency.

But that doesn't mean he's Rice. He ain't.

Just exactly what the **** are you talking about?

Wes Welker is an overrated possession receiver. He's Davone Bess with an elite QB.

But hey, you're welcome to take him over Megatron, Green, Jones, Marshall....Bowe; whatever. The guy's decent, but he's not a world-beater.

The development of Demaryius Thomas will have a great impact on that offense than plugging in Wes Welker for Brandon Stokely.

Those guys you listed, aren't slot receivers. Those guys you listed, haven't caught 100 or more passes in a single season, 5 different times.

Welker has amazing hands compared to Davone Bess, and runs absolutely amazing routes, something Bess will never do.

Except Rice didn't go across the middle nearly as much as Welker does.

The point is, Welker did it, Rice didn't. They played two different roles, and you're trying to underplay Welker's ability to MAKE a play.

In this NFL today, there is no other receiver in this league as dangerous as he has been with the Patriots.

Now he's with the Broncos, where Welker will NEVER see double coverage because there aren't enough defenders on the field to cover Decker and Thomas as is, now you add in the most dangerous slot receiver talent to play the game.

Yeah, its a big ****ing deal.

Agree, to an extent.

We can if they have Osweiler under center. Decker wasn't shit before Manning and he won't be much without him. Thomas was developing, but he won't be the monster he was last year without Manning.

With Manning, we were going to get our asses kicked with our without Wes Welker. Without him, the Broncos aren't that worrisome.

then we should sign Pollard and set him loose after Peyton?

he was offended he gave them years of great production and was given the shaft

so he gave them the shaft right back

Wes brought the offer back to NE and they didn't match it.

They offered 2 years 10 million and wouldn't budge.

Hootie 03-13-2013 03:53 PM

I find that hard to believe.

You don't get it.

Welker is the best receiver in the league when it comes to immediately getting open in a quick release, 3 step drop kind of offense. The same offense you play against a solid pass rush.

The same offense the Patriots used against every team since Welker joined them.

Remember the two games last year where Houston played the Patriots? Remember how embarassing the first game was? Houston tried to blitzkrieg Tom Brady. Welker's statline was like 73 catches for a thousand yards in that game.

I get it.

Carry on.

I made a mistake, it happens. Doesn't stop Welker from being the most dangerous receiver IN THIS LEAGUE TODAY, nor the only receiver to post 5 seasons with 100 catches or more, and still be in this league today, with the 2nd greatest QB to ever play.

That's not how it played out at all.

But let's get real, we're not comparing Welker to Rice, right, because Rice is clearly and obviously the GOAT, and Welker ain't. He isn't even the greatest of right now (though I'd say he's certainly been top 10 and probably top 5 for some of these years).

No, Welker is not the GOAT, because Welker is a SLOT receiver.

He is the GOAT Slot Receiver, and that is undoubtedly true.

But what happens when you give the GOAT Slot Receiver a contract to play with the 2nd best QB of all time, in an offense where they already have TWO solid, top 10-15 receivers?

You just eliminated the pass rush against every team you face, before ever taking a snap.

That's what just happened.

Tamba who? Justin Houston who?

We're not getting sacks on Peyton this year.

Hootie 03-13-2013 03:54 PM

I haven't looked...the Pats really wouldn't match this? Link.
