It could be argued all they really needed was a FS.

Then they decided to let walk/release two starting offensive linemen, a starting defensive lineman and a slot WR.

They created holes we didn't have in January, and expect to fill them with guys who couldn't beat out the apparently unimportant players we let walk.

To do what? Win a playoff game? Against a fringe playoff team in the Colts?

You do realize this is a team that even at Alex smith's best lost most of our games in the second half of the year, right? It's amazing to me how many of the typical critics are now acting like the chiefs are awesome to fit the dialogue that we are doing things wrong.

Don't worry, we'll have some late round comp picks to build with.

In 2015.

Its a process?

The point is that the "typical critics" are correctly observing that the "dialogue" coming from the Chiefs, based on what they did last off-season and what they're doing this off-season, is all ****ed up; it's illogical because it's contradictory.

Nothing more and nothing less, so let's not get this twisted.

Is that really all you have to stand on? That I consider a 4th round pick "late"?

No that is just one example of how your opinion works.

Nothing more, nothing less? Give me a break. I get if people are skeptical of a draft strategy because they don't trust us to draft well. But there are people who actually think we are one or two pieces way from being serious contenders. And it's not homers saying that.

We WERE before we let Albert walk.

The Chiefs have completely undermined the win now strategy they put into motion last offseason.

I mean what the **** was that shit? One last gasp to win a Super Bowl before we blow it up? Dunta Robinson! Sean Smith! Anthony Fasano! Alex Smith! TO THE LOMBARDI!

Albert was the key?

Really?

The drive killer?

I've read that better safety play would have allowed us to beat INDY in the playoffs, and that this would have been a lot better than anything else the franchise has done in the past 20 years.

Is any of this wrong?

I'm pretty sure that most of this group has repeatedly said we should never settle for anything less than a Super Bowl. And I completely agree. And yes, it sure seems like the tone of the thread was that a free safety is all we would need this year, not just last year.

Our or two more players wouldn't keep us from being big time underdogs against Denver or new England.

Well, we don't need only a FS, that much is clear.

OTWP said it best when he noted that we let a lot of marginal players walk. Cool. The problem is that the Chiefs, seemingly, are expecting players who could not unseat said marginal talent last year to carry the water in 2014.

That's unsettling, assuming that logic is allowed in the room.

On the offensive side, with respect to free agency, you better damn well believe that I think the entire complexion of the offense changes if the organization signs D. Jackson.

Huge, huge, huge ****ing mistake not to have made that a reality. People who say otherwise are wrong. Simple as that.

Eleazar 04-05-2014 08:17 PM

I know I'm stating the obvious, but I'm going to wait until after the draft to raise the alarm. Sure, they let some marginal starters go and we only have their understudies to replace them. I'd like to see what the roster looks like on the first day of camp.

You aren't going to get better at every single position every offseason. Sometimes you take a step back and there isn't an obvious free agent replacement or you aren't able to get the one you want. You go young or invite another player to prove himself.

I think that Reid and Dorsey realize that while last year was nice, the record was better than it really should have been and this team isn't remodeled yet. They aren't trying to add the last pieces to a super bowl team just yet. They are going to spend another offseason trying to deepen the roster and develop. I think they are correct in their judgement that this team isn't a player or two away so they are probably making sober choices and this year will be another development year.

There's going to be a lot of teeth-gnashing and wailing "fire everybody" on ChiefsPlanet when they don't win more games than they did last year, I bet. But the W column this year is probably a better barometer of where we are at than the W column last year was.

We competed with Denver at Arrowhead.

There's no reason to think one or two more impact players wouldn't have made a difference against them, especially with Manning getting a year older.
