Inmem, first off, I'm glad you and your family are ok. Now, having said that, you learned your lesson, but you shouldn't have had to. You don't ever, and I mean ever start coals over wood. Old wood, new wood, any wood. A small breeze could blow embers on the wood, hell, any number of things could happen. I'm actually surprised something like this didn't happen before. You really shouldn't be smoking on a deck patio at all, particularly a wood one. Sorry this happened man, but geez, I can't believe you did that.

Weber or not he should have done that, stop raking him across the coals. Sear-iously.

I agree, after several times bqqing and smoking I thought I was good. I made sure the ash and lit embers were under control. I can't count the number of times I used this method. The Fire Marshall was a bit surprised as well. I showed him my setup and the steps I took to prevent any fires. The Arson investigator said in his exact words "this is a very strange fire".

I know man. There's a lot at steak here. Why do you need to start beef with him?

The simple fact that wood can be burnt ends the lesson for us all.

Well done.

Yeah, you guys are right. I just got a little heated. Sorry Inmem. Didn't mean to put such a damper on your mood, but this whole thing really rubs.

We're all just in here chewing the fat and giving Inmen a good ribbing.

My brother-in-law recently melted the vinyl siding on his house because his grill was too close. He was pretty lucky to not have started a fire. It's also why having fire extinguisher around is a good idea.

(sorry for derailing the pun train)

This type of fire is a bit rare, but understandable considering the season. It's best to let this sit and marinate for a bit until we can understand what Inmen is going through.

What can happen with this investigation? Any legal action coming against you? Did you have renter's insurance?

KCUnited 07-25-2016 05:30 PM

Achieved a helluva bark on that insulation. Something to build on.

SAUTO 07-25-2016 05:33 PM

This is a very strange fire, doesn't sound positive to me.
