Not a chance the doctor actually said that.

If I remember correctly from my Dad's stroke, they can only leave the tube in for so long before scarring happens in the throat, once that happens it's decision time to remove it if the patient can breath on their own or not. I think that was something like 10 - 14 days, he can also select to have a trache tube put in below the adams apple area. The fact that he has movement in his hands and feet is great, now it's just seeing if his brain and lungs will allow him to breath on his own.

Eh, I dunno. Wouldn't surprise me if a cardiac doc has that one-liner in his pocket that he's used dozens of times.

That line just seems like someone made it up at the press conference so it can be used in the made for TV movie later.

The fact his brain is functioning enough to actually remember the game seems like a great sign. Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

If Damar can't play again he will have a hefty injury settlement.

Russillo had Dominique Foxworth on who was the president of the Players Union when they held out, so he's informed, said that if Hamlin doesn't play again, he doesn't get any medical insurance after his contract is terminated and isn't eligible for the pension since you have to be 5 years to be vested, and even then after 5 years, the insurance is only available for 5.

THAT would be a bad look, kids.

It would, but that aspect of it is hardly unprecedented. There are probably a dozen examples every year of a player trying to make it in the league who blows an ACL and never makes it back.

It does make me wonder if this will bring more light to that fact, though, and possibly change how it works in the next CBA.

I'm assuming there would be some extenuating circumstances in Hamlin's case, where they might provide him with insurance he otherwise doesn't qualify for. Again, this is assuming he never makes it back to football.

Why does a 2 year player deserve some long severance plan?

Because paying a multi million dollar salary through workman's comp is a bad look too.
