I didn’t know Bills fans would happy about this deal. They just love pretending Mahomes can’t win even one without Jones or Kelce.

They can cope however they feel they need to. Fact remains that their superstar QB can't beat our superstar QB in the playoffs, a QB they allowed us to nab by trading with us.

What would it take for you guys to call this deal a success after it’s all said and done?

I’m thinking 2 more great years from Jones with a couple years of decline and 1 more Super Bowl during his deal.

It’s all about the winning for me. Idc if Chris ever has another 15 sack season. Does he continue to show up and win games in the playoffs, big regular season matchups for seeding/division, etc.?

Cause now that Veach is already having to do things like trade Sneed to offset a monster contract like this, so much of the pressure is shifted to the front office to make the right player acquisitions around Chris, Patrick, Kelce.

Those guys are the pillars you don’t win it all without, but they can’t win it on their own.

As long as we keep building a beast and win a championship in the next three years, hopefully multiple, it’ll be a success for sure.

And that’s the thing about the alternate reality of losing Chris this year — we just have no idea how long it would have taken to overcome it. It very well may have sank our chances in 2024 specifically because with Omenihu’s injury, it was gonna be damn hard to add the necessary pass rushers to compete at the highest level in 2024.

Nick Bolton is a MLb with coverage limitations (not a Fred Warner/Roquon Smith). Trey Smith is a RG. Creed Humphrey is a C.

It would be risky to sacrifice your defensive unicorn/straw that stirs the drink to focus on keeping all 3 of those guys.

I won’t be shocked if they only sign 1 long-term…

And re: Jones deal, let’s not overlook the idea of future restructures. If they’re right against the cap next year or the year after, they could swipe the card again (restructure bonus) and push money into 26,27,28 and even into 29 and 30 on void years or added years.

History has shown us they don't really value signing centers to elite money. The Chiefs like to draft good centers, then let them walk. They've done it two times before this and there is absolutely no indication they plan to pay Creed.

Drafted Hudson in the 2nd round in 2011. Let him walk.
Drafted Morse in the 2nd round in 2015. Let him walk.
Drafted Humphrey in the 2nd round in 2021.

They aren't stupid. And I see a trend.

They didn’t have the best QB to ever wear cleats when they let Hudson and Morse go. They aren’t going to make Mahomes get used to a different set of All-Pro ass cheeks to look at. Creed will get paid and Thuney will ride off into the sunset for a cheaper guard.

Well, Hudson was drafted by a previous administration.

Morse had real concussion issues. I can't believe he's still playing.

So maybe, maybe not. Creed is the guy I'd extend, Smith walks, and Thuney you let go when it's cap friendly to do so.

I feel like the Sneed trade has to becoming in the next 24 hours.

I will warn y'all - I just got an autographed Creed jersey on Friday. Last purchase to add to the wall in the man cave was a Tyreek autograph and he was gone 3 months later...

If Creed can actually efficiently snap in shotgun, maybe he’d be worth it. The extra second he gains Patrick with his elite pass blocking is offset when he snaps the ball like he’s skipping rocks.

RunKC 03-10-2024 09:54 AM

Creed and Bolton won’t be making big cap hits until likely 2026. By then Thuney will be gone, Kelce will likely be gone, Taylor could be let go if needed, Tranquill will be gone and Reid could be gone if needed.

The roster won’t be the same as it is today. Guys will go and that money will be replaced by the up and comers.

Folks dialed in with the front office predicted the Tranquil signing set off a cascade of announcements. The framework for Sneed’s trade is probably in place and they’ll announce within 2 or 3 days.

No center is worth paying elite money to when you won't even run a QB sneak and you always lead the league in pass play percentage. The Chiefs do not pay elite center money and haven't for years and rightly so.

Gutsy move. I will say this, Mr BV has some big ones.

Only detail that still needs to be ironed out is how big the signing bonus is, because all $95M in guarantees is earned in the first 3 years, so how much is it going to cost to get out of it after 2026.

I'm guessing the signing bonus is large. Using that along with the 5 year length to make this deal more manageable over the next few years and let 2027-2028 be a problem for another day.
