Turn on ESPN radio here in Dallas on the way home, figure they'd at least mention the draft. Nope.

I didn't think Kyler Murray would be drafted.

****, bet it's going to be Adams. Moore never learns. Hope I'm wrong.

Adams goes at 17
|
Not going to be Adams.
|
Interesting the A’s took Murray. He’s going to be a tough sign.

Nope. Angels took care of that. |
Angels took Adams, so now he probably will be the next Trout.

Pedro does. |
Wasn't Singer thought of as a top 5-10 guy? MLB.com has him as #2. Any injury or projectability concerns?
|
possibly a steal. is what mlb is reporting.

I like that it's a pitcher out of college rather than high school. |

They did with their first pick. |
Why'd he fall if he was the #2-4 rated guy
|
I haven't watched him this year, but I saw him in a couple of starts in last years CWS (probably at his best)
He induces a lot of soft contact because of the movement on his 2 seamer and slider |

Singer is a steal at that point. Between juggling the kids, I didn’t realize he was still available. Glad they pulled the trigger.
I think he slid because of money. When he fell out of the top 5, money became an issue for a lot of the other teams. Same thing with the Liberatore kid. It’s a great start, guys. |
Quote:
These guys think he puts a lot of strain on his elbow. Also the team that drafted him out of high school didn't like his medical. However, he was very durable during his Florida career https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf90rvaFsqU RE Projectability I've heard some people project him at a #3 starter at best. If you watch him pitch, there is no doubt that he has the mental makeup to be a starter in the majors. You can just tell he is a true competitor |
|
Just hope he stays a starter and doesn't have to go to the bullpen like every other Royals draft pick.

Kansas City Royals select Brady Singer with 18th overall pick
The Kansas City Royals went with pitching with their first pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, adding Florida Gators righty Brady Singer to their ranks. The guys on the MLB Network coverage said Singer was the safest pick remaining when the Royals were on the clock. One also said he has the potential to be a really good closer in the majors. Singer has pitched in big games during his career at Florida, including during the College World Series last year with the Gators, who won the whole she-bang that year. This past season saw Singer posting a 2.27 ERA and holding his opponents to a .188 batting average. The MLB Draft is a whole different animal from other sports’ drafts with the biggest reason why being that these players take a few years of grooming before getting to the big leagues. Singer is a college player though, so he could be ready to roll for the team in the next two or three years, perhaps just when the franchise is starting to compete again. The Kansas City Royals still have four more picks on Monday and three more in the next 20 picks. This bodes well for a team that is looking to rebuild and they need to make the most out of all of these selections. Singer is going to get put to work for the Royals and hopefully in the next few years he’ll become a household name. He’s shown he can handle big moments during his time at Florida and if the Royals can get back to the promise land again soon, they’ll need those kind of performances from the Gator pitcher. Alex Duvall of Royals Farm Report had this to say about Brady Singer, This guy could be in KC’s rotation very soon. He’s probably a #2 at his peak, but I’d expect him to be a mid-rotation starter. Duvall also noted that he was surprised to see Singer still available at pick number 18. It’d be great to see the Royals hit on a pitching prospect, especially a first rounder, and be able to hold onto him for the next big run. Pitching prospects can be risky, but Singer seems like he’s worth the risk. Welcome to the Kansas City Royals, Brady Singer! |

So do we all. Him being a UF product is a good thing. They do a good job developing their guys and getting them ready His changeup sounds like it already is average-ish, and he has a curve and a slider (better slider than curve). Not much polish needed there. |
Old name pitching tonight.

Who's in the discussion next?
Where is the eierman kid projected? |
Is Rocker still available? Most here expected him to go between 5-10?
|
Beer is probably going to be a top selling jersey if he makes the majors.
|
Duncan had singer in the op

So can we print em for 2021 after tonight's picks? |

:blushes: Kumar Rocker or Ethan Hankins would be great adds at 33/34 if either makes it. Also like Nick Schnell, 4-tool OF. Will be interesting to see how much a lot Singer eats up, though. |
Tampa is taking rocker
|
So basically one or more of these picks are going to need to be value picks right?
|
Quote:
Hopefully the Rays don't steal them. |
Might as well grab Kowar and keep the teammates together.

Did the draft stop? I thought there was more tonight...

Great job Dayton! High Floor low ceiling guy. Then in Kowar high ceiling low floor guy. We need pitching. A really good draft so far!
|
Florida playing on ESPN2 right now.
|
Not as thrilled with this one.
|
I like it. These guys are all tall pitchers too. I like tall, lanky pitchers as long as they can stay healthy.
|
Well, MLB.com says Lynch is the lowest ranked taken so far, not that it means a whole lot. Hopefully it's our value pick.
|
Duffy not even gonna hold the lead for 1 inning....
|
Why does it seem like Junis is the only pitcher that doesn't immediately shit away a lead?
|
Lynch is definitely an underslot selection. I’m surprised they took him at 34 rather than 40, though.
Would have loved to get Hankins or Rocker. Electric arms. |
So our third guy helps pay for the first two?
At least with the college picks they almost have to sign or play for peanuts in semi-pro ball for a year  |

First two picks are ****ing phenomenal.

Could have had Hankins & Lynch. |

They’re going to need to bump Singer to top 10 money. That means moving a few other guys’ bonuses down. They always have the option of returning to college, since they’re draft eligible as juniors. |
