The story I've heard told is that Mizzou had a deal that was all but done, but wouldn't agree to let him out of his contract if Kansas ever came calling, which is what he was supposedly waiting for.

So it's not like we didn't try, but Quinn Snyder as the backup plan? :facepalm:
