If Dan Shaughnessy was playing for or coaching the Patriots, a sizable percentage of Patriots fans would root for the Chiefs. He is not really liked at all by people who grew up reading the Globe.

I'm rewatching the Chiefs/Pats regular season game:

First half, Al Michaels: "Yeah as Bill Parcells used to say, let's not get the anointing oil out just yet" (about Mahomes)

3 minutes left, after Mahomes just tied it on a 75-yard bomb to Hill: "Even Bill Parcells might get the anointing oil out after that."

And then Collinsworth: "What the Patriots want to do here, is score a TD with no time left on the clock, and NEVER give it back to Patrick Mahomes until the playoffs."

Heh - the playoffs have arrived.

There is a play in that game where the defender lands on Mahomes' legs that made me sick to my stomach when I watched the game a second time. I thought about all the injuries from across the league, and I think Mahomes staying as healthy as he is must be a sign from the Football Gods.

From my vantage point, Tyreek Hill deserves to be called the best athlete on the Chiefs. Frankly, I'd be surprised if their are many players in the NFL that are better athletes than Hill. Hill is one of the few NFL players with true world class speed so he is the Chief player that scares me the most in this particular game considering he is capable to turning a short catch into a touchdown and also capable of returning a punt for a touchdown. I looked it up and in his brief NFL career, he has already returned 4 punts for touchdowns. And I suspect he is one of those players that has teams changing how they punt.

The Chiefs for a decade seemed to keep drafting speedy returner/scatback types. We had Dexter McCluster (who suuuuucked), then D'Anthony Thomas (better but always injured), then Hill - and probably some others I'm forgetting.

Hill was a running back in college and IIRC no one here had super high expectations of him over those other two. But holy crap that first season he retuned a ton of punts/kicks - but even more than that he caught everything that was thrown at him. You could just throw it in his direction, at any speed, and he'd somehow come down with it. He caught a ball in our big comeback against Denver while he was literally being jacked up by the defender. I was like - why was this dude a running back in college?

I think one thing fans of any pro sport do is tend to assume a star player would have emerged no matter what situation they were drafted into. But I give a lot of credit to Reid for pushing Hill into the WR role and working so hard with him to figure it out.

Who knows - if Hill is drafted by some other team he may not have turned into a top 5 WR and the second most valuable player on a team with the league MVP.

The thought of Mahomes getting injured is basically like the thought of one of your kids getting abducted - unspeakable.

Btw I'm watching the Rams game now and holy crap - there were a couple bad calls but our defense really did suck. Most of the calls seem legit. Sooooo glad Scandrick is off the field.

What's the weather like in KC

Out west it was twelve degrees but no accumulation so it was just a cold ****ing night.

I hope the cold shivers through Tom Brady blood. I hope his bones are brittle and week when Justin Houston or Jones or Ford layeth the sack on him.
