Hamas on the clock.....

The entire 1st round in a week?

Unheard of around here. Great job, guys.

I'm here...

Pick write up coming shortly.

Direckshun 03-10-2008 04:15 PM

I'm betting it's Nicks or Flowers.

Uhhhhhhmmmm..... I'll say Nicks. Just 'cause I need predictions to make my life meaningful.

John Beck is an unknown, but worse, he's a 27 year old unknown. He didn't show anything during the season to render any real opinion on his abilities. Joe Flacco is an intriguing prospect, but he played in a pass happy system at a smaller school, and despite having great measureables, he couldn't beat out Tyler Palko at Pitt.

Sam Baker seems to be a nice low-risk LT, but his smallish size and questions about his toughness and intensity wouldn't make him a good fit for a Parcells system, IMO. Carl Nicks is an intriguing prospect, but it seems like this may be a few picks too high for him. However, given that the current coach is an O-line man, the raw measureables and character of a man like Nicks, and his immense size, may mean that he has more upside than any other tackle in this draft .

Jason Ferguson may be a NT, but he's 408 years old. Kentwan Balmer was on our radar, and although he has the frame to play NT in a 3-4, he projects better as a 3-4 end. That tweener status on the line fears that he may be more Jimmy Wilkerson than Jamaal Williams.

Quentin Groves would be an ideal OLB to pair with Gholston to make a Merriman/Phillips combo, but although his measureables are great, his intensity, motor, consistency. and work ethic leave something to be desired.

So, by invoking the Planet theory, with the 32nd pick in the NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins select Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska

Dang Hamas. You stole my pick.

Mecca 03-10-2008 04:23 PM

Well there are only 18 other OT's.

Very true.

These next 2 picks should be relatively easy when you look at the teams and the players left....

Direckshun 03-10-2008 04:29 PM

For all intents and purposes, you made the right pick. Flacco is simply too iffy to be taken this soon, and Balmer doesn't have the proper build to fit as NT, and I think he'd still be out of position as a 3-4 DE.

If it came down to Groves, Baker, and Nicks for you, I think you made the right choice. You've already got Gholston on one side and Torbor should be a good man on the other side. I still believe Nicks is the better prospect than Baker but they're both great options.

Considering the first pick the Rams are now pretty much forced to go with a OT since they have 2 injury prone QB's.......and an offensive HC.

I'd also be shocked if it broke this way and the Raiders didn't take Balmer with Sapp retiring.

The Rams select from USC, LT Sam Baker.

Direckshun 03-10-2008 04:46 PM

My money's on Flacco.
